mk6 fwd mobile workshop

Postby cbmotorsport » Wed Feb 29, 2012 7:47 pm

hi all,
i brought my mk6 transit from a friend of mine who aquired it from knowles and sons builders.
normally builders vans are battered, but this one was fairly tidy, i got her for £1000, as she needed tax and mot, it failed its mot on rear brake adjustment and welding on the passenger sill underneath the sliding door.
the best part is, it only had 111,159 miles on the clock from new! so i welded a new sill in, de stickered it and ripped all the boarding out in the back and started again .

here are some pictures so far :) .

added 2 led lights which are linked to the interior lights, just so when i open the doors i can see where my light switches are that i will be fitting ;)

i will be adding aluminium angle on all joins, and alloy sheeting alot of the worktops,i will then be adding phenolic ply flooring and of course a nice shiny toolbox.
my plan is to have all the lighting in 12v smd led which will run from a leisure battery, this will also power an inverter to run low voltage sockets for the laptop charger, jump pack charger and all cordless tool chargers, the second set of sockets will be linked to a fly lead on the back of the vanm which i can either plug my generator into, or into a customers house if needed, behind the drivers seat , the big panel hides a 100 litre 3hp compressor :)
i will be putting an ip55 rated 3 pin blue plug on the back doors for the welder to run from aswell.

comments welcome :)

Nice work, looks just like my kitchen
I have 1000w(peak) inverter (500w norm) and it struggles with my de-walt 18v charger, it does charge for a while then the charger starts flickering twice instead of flashing once so I can only assume that the inverter is not sufficient as it charges fine in the house :)

i have the answer to that, because of the way a charger works, the pulse lengths are different to that of a power drill or grinder, the only inverters that can supply this are pure sine wave, not modified sine wave inverters :) as you may have seen,my water pump failed today so when i replace it tomorow ill take loads of pictures and do a little how too :)
