My budget MK5

Postby Bio666 » Thu Mar 15, 2012 3:33 pm

Hi guys. Joined up a while ago. Been lurking and looking at ideas.Thought I would join in the fun and show some pictures off of my little MK5.
Bought it as a good running but rough looking toy. Arches completely shot to bits. Few holes in the floor. But, all the beams had been replaced, new rear wheel bearings, prop shaft bearing etc. Tons done. Just the outside looked rough, as you can see.

So, new arches front and rear

(sorry about the photo, dont quite know what happened there)
Then moved onto the inside. Got a ply kit off ebay

Little bit of insulation

Some carpet to make it a bit better

Not looking bad

Got the outside tarted up a little. Unfortunatly, the go faster stripes dont make it go any faster

Fitted a new head unit for some better sounds

Oh, and going back to the floor, I welded in some threaded plates, to use some eyebolts in when the bike is on the back. Plates are fitted from under the van for extra strength.

Going with the red theme from the outside, I picked up some carpet
Image
Made some little pockets coming from the arch boxes to the doors, so I can use them for stashing eyebolts, tie down straps etc etc

And thats where it is so far. Need to put some edging strips on the inside so the carpet edges are protected. Next up is a full service. Tappets, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.
Also the rear brakes seem to bind when its been parked up, so I have new shoes for the rear. Figured while I was at it, I may as well go the whole way, and got new discs and pads for the front too. While they are off, I will do front wheel bearings, as the front seems a little whiney.

Another thing on my list is a nice set of wheels. I'll have to keep my eyes open for some.
