Mk5 Hi-Cube referb (slow progress)

Postby CH1 » Fri Mar 16, 2012 4:34 pm

Going to start work on my mk5 Hi-Cube next week, going to do everything on it, wings, archers, full paint job, full service, (cam belt, oil, filters, antifreeze etc) It started life as a Omega Express Parcel van, then a furniture van, then as a advertising board at a local pub. Its only covered 96,000 miles but with no service history, it has got the sweetest banana engine in that I have ever heard, started up first turn of the engine after it had been stood outside for 2 year 8) tax disc in the window ran out in 2008 so not been on the road for a while. This is going to be a slow progress thread, expecting it finished in July/August this year :D Here are some pictures of how it stands before the work commences :D

Look carefully just before the front of the rear wheel arch you can see the panel. The other givaways are the rear overhang, bumper end caps and the amber marker lights on the side.

Also what would be the best way to fill these bolt holes in once I have taken the wood off? Thought about weld but wont that distort the body and make it all wrinkly :?:

if you dont want to weld. treat the holes with your favourite metal sealer, then bond some small pieces of suitably treated metal to the inside of the van, then fill the holes and fill

or fibreglass from behind

or

alternatively you could braze the holes, this way there will be no noticable distortion to the panelwork

i would weld them if i was doing it. squash some copper tube and get someone to hold it the other side for you while you weld them up. just do a bit at a time and it wont distort.
