My Transit MK1 -73 Project

Postby madog2mad » Sat May 05, 2012 8:27 am

Hi all,

I'm from Finland and started this project over a year ago. Since not doing this full time it has been a long project (mostly over weekends). Also as I did painting at workshop and also engine change, it went a bit over the budget. But everything else I did myself. It used to be a firetruck before (red) and previous owners just painted over it (grey) with a paint brush. It's has two seats at back for 6. So registered for nine. Our purpose was to turn it into a surfvan.

started with this:

Rear (roof rack is very steady, and you it can hold a lot, built into the frame of the car to support. you can walk and sit up there)

started to rip interior apart:

panels and floor are out:

Driver seat covered

Teak flooring.. (Afterwards thinking this wasn't probably smartest choice, it looks REALLY nice and holds water (as we surf) but makes car heavier - though there's not a lot of it but still)

Lots of noisekillers (I think less of it would've done the job as well - it was a little waste of money and brings weight as well)
Image
door panel installed took the chrome from the old ones and glued to the new one. (Tried to keep it original looking) --> Hand made in Estonia - I know a very good place where you can get one custom made and half the price than in web. Ask if interested
Image
from the front. I was pissed because they didn't paint the front grill according to the directions I gave them. It was supposed to be as it was in the original paint (only grill white and surrounding green and letters white). But what can you do!
Image
Progress in the front interior: seats, panels.
Image
new window seals:
Image
lauhala mat installed to the roof. And wall paneling done - I will add some ropes to the rough edges to cover them and then also some more bamboo to the roof.

Good to hear, it's alright, but I think other way would've come out better :). I will add a thin white line along the sides of the car as well. (it was supposed to be painted, but the guy just didn't do it) So Now I might just ad a sticker (if it doesn't look good I can just rip it off) we'll see..
