Hi Transiteers
Went to newlands corner on saturday morning it was
very misty almost foggy as i made my way there, it
was so bad at one point i had to use my rear fog lights.
The camper started half a turn as usual & off we went
that is Bill & i.
I took it easy to start with as i never put my foot down
hard until the engine is warmed up to normal temp but
also i had to gently break in the new brake pads.
The traffic was very light at eight o'clock on a saturday
morning so we just cruised along at the speed "limits."
The engine just purred as we ambled along the winding
country lanes the minor nigles now way behind us,
We turned into the carpark at newlands corner but alas
there was no one to greet us apart from some workmen
who i have met there several times before who are inter
ested it the conversion i am doing to the camper.
I explained i had just fitted jaguar xjs front brakes to the
front Transit crossmember & the new wheels & tyres the
all agreed they looked super,
We had a cuppa & took some pictures in the mist but as
you can see they came out quiet well considering.
We then drove a little faster on to Rykas cafe where a lot
of bikers meet at the bottom of box hill as i started to turn
i stopped & said to my friend Bill i am going to try out the
new wheels & tyres with the line locker,
Before i fitted the new wheels & tyres if i used the line lock
er the rear wheels with the limited slip diff would just push
the front wheels forward,
So i put the locker on & booted her the rear wheels spun as
it was damp & the rear of the camper spun round like a pen
dalum with a great deal of schreeching of the tyres.
It attracted a large audience one man said they did not fit
engines like that when they were built.
After a very large cheeseburger & a cuppa we continued on
home.
The brakes seemed to have bedded in nicely, now was a good
time to try them out as there was no traffic about on a clear
road so i said to bill when we get to the speed limit sign i
am going to try out the brakes, unfortunately i must have pre
sted the pedal a little to hard as all the wheels locked up just
for a second as the road was still a little damp.
but it was not a problem as i stayed in a streight line,
I said we will do the same again at the next speed sign
but not so hard this time the camper slowed very quickly but
did not lock this time as i am getting the feel of it after all
this time,
the rest of the journey home was very enjoyable albiet slow
as the traffic had now woken up,
look forward to meeting lots of Transiteers in the future.
The brake conversion was worth all the effort & sleepless nights.

Hi Transiteers
Am going to Rykas at the bottom of Boxhill surrey
There is a ford meeting every first saturday of
the month i found out by accident when i first took
my camper out for the maiden voyage.
Hope to see some of you there.
Maybe we should find somewhere to do the same
or there the last saturday or sunday food for thought.
Happy Transiteering.

Hi Transiteers
Went to take my camper to hastings for a run out to
blast out the cobwebs as they all need to be used even
in winter as things get rusty & sticky when not used
very often,
especialy things like brakes also water likes to lay in
unforseen places so only using them dries them out.
Unfortunatly my Wife informed me the mot has ran
out so phoned for an appointment but alas they were
to busy so went in my car.
Booked camper in for mot the next week,
Only thing i could think of would fail the mot was on
the last journey the indicator warning light bulb had
blown so decided to replace it just before i was ready
to leave for the mot but the garage phoned up to say
could i bring it an hour earlier so had to rush about to
change the bulb,
whilst doing so i found i had wired it round the wrong
way positive was on the outside not on the centre
terminal so had to change it round so it could not short
out if it touched earth at any time.
Went for mot the tester was most impressed with the
front brake & handbrake performance as they were so
powerful compared to vans he is used to testing.
Alas the rear brakes could only pull 200 on the tester
but was enought for pass will be fitting new brake pads
asap to bring them up to scratch the ride there & back
was very enjoyable as she is almost there now Happy
christmas to all Transiteers.

Hi J.C.
I had a great christmas hope you did too.
Went to brooklands on New Years day day what
a blinder i was the only camper there,
There must have been at least two & a half
thousand cars & twice as many people.
The sun shone all day & i met so many people
who were interested in the fact that it had a v8
engine in it,
Most of them expected to see a deisel under the
bonnet. when i started it up to leave some people
came to the drivers window & asked for a rev up
i of course obliged & noticed a lot of heads turning
in my direction as i left i had to do a three point
turn so by this time a rather large crowd had gathered
so i took off a bit lively to show them it was a wolf in
sheeps clothing,
I realy hope to meet up with you soon,
I have also got a mk2 camper to sell for an old man
which i am putting right as it has been neglected for
the last couple of years as he is eighty years young.
It has a 2litre pinto engine it has had a lot of work
done to it over the last couple of years for example
new king pins. discs & pads. recon cylinder head.
clutch. rebuilt back axle.
I have just fitted new rear wheel cylinders brake
shoes hub seals cambelt & will be giving it a full
service so will be smoking it about till i sell it.
when i drove it back to my place it drove faultlessly.
Have a great New Year hope to see you soon.
Happy Transiteering.
