MY MAD CUSTOMS.

Postby fidget » Sun Jul 15, 2012 5:55 pm

hi all. i thought i would start a thread for things that i have done and am doing as i do them. this will all be done to my mk4 lwb 2.5di 1992 J reg. with a none bannana engine. fitted with bosch pump that runs on veg oil diesel mix,

the first some may have seen already is the roof of my van, i cut the roof of a donor van, cut the middle section out and welded the outer edges together, then i cut the middle out of the existing room and welded the new bit on top. i do have photos of this in the stages as it was done that i will post when i find them.
the roof was raised at the time as i was using the van as a camper and some may be able to relate to this, but found it awkward to pull trousers up bent over so raised the roof in the middle so i could stand up strait to pull trousers up. have been told by a few people that it looks like i have a bath strapped to the top. lol

this was done years ago now and the van was no longer used as a camper so prity much has just stayed that way since.
the van since then has been nothing but a neglected work horse that i was just running into the ground.

but then i joined this site and after reading what others have done with their vans, it inspired me to keep the old girl going as there is not a great deal wrong with it, the worst that it needs doing is the front nearside chassis need welding, right to the front where the radios arm or whatever it is called is bolted. next it needs new front shocks and a replacement power stearing rake. other than that she is in good shape but looks like a shed.

this brings me onto the next thing that i done, while sitting bored with all the rain, took the drivers door mirror off to change it glass init, i know it can be done with it on the van but thought about spraying the plastic while at it.
this when i saw the mirror in my hand gave me an idea? so out with a few matirals and you can see what i have done in this pic. lol

goto make one for the other side now

have pleanty of mad ideas and plan to keep you all posted in this thread, all with pics as i do them.
as you will see i like to be different and dont mind the laugh's, life should be fun.
hope that i may be able to get to transitmania this year, it will be my first transit meet,
look forward to hearing your comment and/or ideas.

lol no the hand came from a sprinter driver who thought he would give me the finger, so i took his hand. lol.
the hand was made from thermo polymorth plastic heated and rolled out then put over my hand on the mirror, pushed around fingers, cooled then filled with exspamding foam, left to dry and trimmed,
my advise may not be right, but I like to give my 10p worth, and an answer even if wrong is nice to see.

you could. but it becomes soft again if it gets hot. but you could use it to make a mold that you could fill with liquid plastic, or glass fiber.
i may have a problem with the hand if left in direct sunlight for to long. never thought of that till now. lol

cleaning out the back of the van today. and thought i would show you something i done to my van some 6 to 7 years ago. just wondering if anyone else has done something like this??
view from stood my nearside pass door through slideing door.
Image
over head view
Image
view from near side underneath.
Image
and from off side underneath.

this was done when i was using as a camper and the sub speakers that i had took up to much room in the van. it used to have a 12" and a 10" sub in there, lol made the floor rattle well. and had a pieace of 10mm toughened glass over the top. vented around the outer edge. sounded good.
may put some in again now i have started to do her up.
looks like it needs a rub down and re undersealing.

believe me i have thought of it a few times. lol

befor anyone mentions the exhaust not being bolted,, this is because i ordered a complete new exhaust system. down pipe ok, center section ok. tail pipe?? they have sent 3 so far and still they have not got it right.
first one they sent was for a mk3 with the rear axle further forward from the back.
second one they sent was for a tipper or pickup with side exit.
third one was for a short wheel base.
3 weeks now and they say they cannot find the correct pipe, (useless lot)
so in the mean time just poped it on so i could use the van. lol just have to kick the tail pipe each morning to push it back on. lol
