Ive tried several different silvers from chrome wheel paint (looked too tacky) to BMW artic silver (looked the same as any other car silver) So I have settled with this for the time being... Aluminium, plain Halfords Aluminium, very fine particles. Im not sure what I was looking for at the end of the day, maybe a "Metaflake" shame you can't get that in a can... :|
Still got a few nicks in this one, so I going to fill and rub it down again

Yes, once Im happy with the finish, just got to look for some nice, but secondhand rubber to put wrap around them... I was thinking 205's on the back and stick with 185's on the front as I dont have power steering :(

stunning piece of kit AlanN
and just the sort of job i need to do on my vans conversion,
(dont worry i wont nick all your ideas)

dunno if this may be of any use rgards your wheels,
but theres now a powdercoating process thatsaptly named after the company who developed it
'AEROCOAT'
its a true chrome powder coating finish
few pics of the finished effect for you to see

and before anyone asks - yes it is powdercoating
it's not exactly cheap - but its far cheaper than proper chrome plating

had the very same problems locating the light grey

ended up going with the 'jumbo' cord
top tip:-

the foam is a pain in th butt
as its not adhered to the carpet itself very well,

rubbing it with your hand breaks it away from the carpet,
and gives a much better adhesion
