The work begins...

Postby Mr Just To Be Sure » Sat Jan 04, 2014 12:01 am

Hi

Thanks to the heads up and info provided on the site, so far I've been given directions to the Transit breakers yard in Telford full lining kit, door latch, grab handles & door pockets = £40 all in!

Also given ideas/info on work being carried out or already has been :

- Ostram bulbs - make a massive difference
- Installing/covering camper style ceiling
- Installing the lED lighting
- Mondeo interior light and glasses storage
- Insulating the rear (I do SMARTrepairs and have to keep the tints safe from the cold!)
- bespoke storage/racking/work area
- Colour coding centre part of bumper/grill
- Install fogs (with Ostrams)
- Colour code wing mirror casings
- Instal of single din media unit
- Alloy wheels (have posted a request in 'parts wanted')

To do...

- Find some light brows (or have a good make make them from vinyl - can't track em down!)
- Mr Van Tuner to do his thing
- LED lighting in the grill
- Mrk 7 rear lights
- A bar (should be OK on a 06 van?)
- Sun visor/ deflectors
- Side bars
- Lowered front
- Colour coding centre dash
- Something with the seats!?!

All ideas and prompts from the forum members - nothing original YET, is there anything obvious I'm missing? Interested in your thoughts...

I'll start posting some images over the next couple of weeks

Thanks again to all contributors :D

Things coming along...

- Front Matt should arrive anyday
- New front fog lamps landed - they'll be in over the weekend and connected to a dashboard switch (weather permitting)
- 2 x un-marked wing mirrors waiting for me at Telford transit breakers (casings to colour coded)
- bespoke racking designed/measured/materials ordered - will be put together next week when Mig is available (then enameled)
- wiring done for the 2 x 4ft strip lights (gonna be bright!)
- connected the 12v lights to an interior switch so can operate with doors shut
- 240v inlet installed (went in a treat)
- 6mm sound deadening/insulation sheets in (I doubted the impact - have to say fantastic!)
- 6mm ceiling sheets sorted - got to be wrapped but rain stopped play this afternoon!
- still not found any alloys?
- still can't track down light brows!
- mudflaps arrive tomorrow
- wrapping all the beams with grey carpet to match the lining sheets (again rain stopped play...)

It'll be Feb/march until I colour code bumpers etc , too much going on in the inside!

End of month goes to the body shop for a full tidy up including sills etc

Coming together slowly but surely - some photos below, they'll get better (promise) go distracted doing the work!

The lining continues - doing all the jiggly bits so that hopefully no white will show in doors. Roof panels are going to work, back door panels wrapped. It should hopefully come together real soon.

This week/weekend: ceiling in & wrapped, 240v lights installed all panels wrapped and fitted

Really got to work on the photos

Making headway and the whole interior us wrapped and in place, electrics done and working (unusual for me!)

Ceiling wasn't quite as tricky as I thought and for a first outing learnt loads & happy with the finish so far.

Van going to the paint shop on Monday and if any of the sign companies actually come back to me I'll have it sorted ASAP

Next job - fit the storage system...

Put a full listing of what to done etc and then forgot to save to drafts while adding the photos to my bucket...

So they do say a picture speaks a thousand words - have a look and hopefully all will become apparent of the progress being made...

Pretty much done & dusted....for the moment...

- interior all painted and organised
- Compressor & electrics completed

Next quite day

- colour code centre part of the front bumper
- colour code wing mirrors
- do something with the steelies like the USA police cars (chromed beauty ring + chromed rally centre cap with black gloss wheel) won't be everyone's cuppa but I like the old hot rod kinda look, may even add white walls :|

Still haven't put the fogs in! Missing the clips to hold the bulbs in (I think) and the relevant connectors etc ...I hate electrics!

Things been a little quite on the van front after the recent conversion & set up

Finally have it sign written and have dealt with some of the little paintwork niggles - looking pretty smart.

Sun strip & tints to go on when I get a couple of hours & also tracking down the wind deflectors. Fogs still not in as I'm useless with electrickery and I need to source some of the connectors etc

Had an hour late this afternoon so setting about colour coding the centre of the front bumper as well as spraying/Matt lacquering the rest of the bumper a black - no more grey bumpers and no more back to black sessions. I'll do the same colour coding with the wing mirrors when I pick the 2 x new ones up (current ones are a little battered)

Bumper came of easy with 3 x screws either side (on the back side of the bumper) and the usual 2 x hex bolts either side on the front

I've sanded the bumper and used a 2k high build primer - took 10 minutes to go off with a heat gun but have to say it's bonded brilliantly and is hard as nails after wet sanding with 1500 & a 3000 tryzak pad, the primer has started to shine - good base coat for the forthcoming Diamond white + clear coat.

Had a spare hour so thought a little paint mod was in order and finished off the middle bumper - it's growing on me!

I've got to replace the mirrors as they're scratched/busted and reckon they'll have to be white as well, I'll also paint the bumper corners black and Matt lacquer them to smarten it up a little more. Then the wheels...

I'll get round to the fogs when I work up the courage! Lol

Fogs are easy, hardest part is finding the parts.
