Hi people, we have now been able to make a start on the repairs to Baz, the side sills required should be with us within a week, so time to get cutting :shock:

Starting with the right hand side between the driver's door and the rear wheel arch, the rear arch was removed to expose sound paintwork :shock:

Then the lower and intermediate sill sections were removed, this revealed the narrow strip between the floor and the upper edge of the intermediate sill to be badly rusted, a replacement will be produced.

Some pics of the exposed area;

It was also necessary to remove the lower four inches of the side panel above the intermediate sill, this was mainly filler and rust!
Again, this part will be folded and rolled to match the factory body contour.

More later,

Lucy said she was going to be following it, so she may post here. Have now got two brand new headlights to go with the front panel we acquired off you.

A bit more done on Baz today, as can be seen in the pictures above, the strip between the intermediate sill and the floor was rather rusty!

Today we removed the rusty metal and made up a replacement part;
Image
This is temporarily fitted in position with self tapping screws, this allows for removal during the repair and is required to suit the plan we have :wink:

Here we see the part viewed from the front;
Image

Now, unfortunately the metal folder will only handle 48 inch lengths, so a small section has been added at the front;

The two parts will be tacked together on the van then removed to complete the welding process, the hope is that it will look like one piece in keeping with the original part.

Bit more on the 'Old Bugger' today :D

Made a section to repair the right hand side panel behind the front door;
Image

The return at the rear end of the panel has been folded at the edge to meet the rear quarter panel. The very end of the rear quarter panel has been left in place to assist with alignment;
Image

At the front the panel has been folded so as to return into the front door aperture, this matches the factory production method;
Image
Again, this part has been fitted temporarily with self tapping screws, it will need to be removed prior to permanent fixing so as to provide access for the spot welder.

You will see in the picture that the remainder of the intermediate sill has been removed;
Image
This part is on back order with our supplier but should be with us within a week.
