My new project

Postby jasonescortcozzie » Wed Jul 09, 2014 12:38 am

So having bought my connect from an auction site advertised as "Has keys, runs, oil leak" I find the leak is more of a flow as soon as it cranks over and "runs" was a bit optimistic to say the least.
so up in the air she goes for a jet wash...

Didn't need a wash to find the problem

It's turning out that way! as long as the trouble an strife don't find out how much I'm pouring in to it......

Engine from a scrap yard £200, thought I better strip it down to see if its ok and so far it needs rings and big end bearings, thought it was a good idea to put a new oil pump on it as I have no idea of the mileage on new (to me at least) engine £178. Gaskets from ford....... sitting down??? £400, new water pump (not ford as they want £129) £30, new clutch kit not sure as its on account with the belt and some other odds and ends. Bailey dump valve off ebay £40, Samco hoses on order £125, other bits and bobs £80. still looking for a focus gear box though if anyone has one??

Image

And before anyone says "wtf spend £400 on gaskets??" I'm planning on keeping this for some time and I've built engines with cheap pattern part gaskets before, they leak sooner rather than later if not straight away and the next time I take this engine out will be to put something with alot more oomph in it :D
