Mk2 Transit 190 LWB

Evening All.

Finally got some spare time and bought myself a Mk2 Transit 190 LWB. Limited history, but believe its an ex-AA Van (Or else somebody loved bright yellow in 1984).

It's now running a 2.5Di with an MT75 Box and a very noisy Diff...The plan is to fit a Turbo DI, fit IFS and full repaint. Once it's done, it can then be my tow wagon for my Mk1 Capri.











Current Shopping list...

1. 4.63 Axle / Diff
2. Air-Box / Pipe for Turbo DI Engine
3. Bosch 146 Manual Fuel Pump

If anyone has any of the above or advice re the conversions, you might drop me a line.

looks in pritty good shape to start with

dont know how up to speed you are with the ifs but if you intend to keep it twin wheel then the mk4/5 front is a different pcd so rather than swapping the rear diff it might be easier to swap the entire axle for a mk4/5 one

doing the ifs conversion if really worth it - i drove my non ifs mk1 for the 1st time in 5 years the other week and i'd forgot how much wander even a good steering box has

Luke, defo agree man, the steering box is ok in it, but it still wanders on the road, checked drag links etc and all ok. The first plan is to fit the Turbo DI that I have because hills are torture.

IFS then next on the list as the van is a keeper...

Morning All.

As strange morning go, this wasn't bad. Met my dads buddy who is a retired builder and he reckons he has Mk5 Turbo DI chassis cab at home gathering dust. I reckon once my dad buys him a few pints tonight, it's mine.

He is even pretty sure when the original axle gave up that he fitted a second unit from an Ambulance (Possible 4.63 Ratio).

Question, I was trying to find old posts about fitting a complete Mk5 rear axle as well. From what I can gather, a Mk5 twin wheel axle is 6" wider in total with the possibility of the shock mounting points being in the wrong place as well for a Mk2. It would mean a moving mounts etc, but just want to consider all options before I do anything...

Just wondering has anybody swopped over a rear axle as well when they done a IFS swop... From this picture, I have lots of room between my rear arches..

im sure someone has done a twin wheel ifs on here ive done a mk5 front but it was a swb 5 stud
either way the back axle is easier to relocate the mounts and i cant see it not fitting as they have them in the jumbo mk5's and they are very similar width - ive just fitted a mk5 swb back axle to my mk1 twin wheeler and there is room left in the arches i think another 6" would still have fitted as i filled the gap with wellers

4.63 is the best standard ratio and i think you'd be fine with that as any higher you might be struggling with the trailer and car in tow

and when i fitted the mk5 axle i had to move the mounts but compared to the front ifs job it was dead easy

if you can get the chassis cab for next to nowt its well worth it once you have it a bit of time with the tape measure you'll know what will fit - you'll need all 6/7 mk5 15" wheels too

Folks, Just wondering is this the correct style manual Bosch pump for a DI Conversion

It's from a 97 van, not sure is a pre/post August 97 van

great progress made already mike, fair play. is it a 85 or 100 ps turbo di in the chassis cab? a quick way of spotting em is the larger bore oil filler tube on the rocker cover on the 100 ps one and the same size as an n/a di filler on the 85 ps one.


id be thinking a 4.63 with 15" wheels should go well sweet. marks recovery has a 100ps engine, mt75 and std mk2 4.63 back end and that is crying out for taller gearing.
