mk6 recovery truck progress

here is my mk6 transit recovery truck, i do have a progress thread somewhere but all the pics have gone so thought it would be better just to start a new one

how i first got the truck





back taken off





then went in for a full respray



new sun visor



4+1 rear springs



euro liners





new front bumper and ford badge







then had a recovery truck body made



and windows tinted







hids and led bulbs fitted





and chrome nudge bar







interior carpet








electric windows and electric windows fitted

















then had a tow bar fitted

new belt and tensioner



then had the van remaped and put it on my mates dyno to make sure its all good





and a few pics of some of the cars ive moved

























then back august time i was driving down the motorway and it got hot all of a sudden then there was a bottom end knock developed turned it of and got a mate to collect me















and the truck has been parked up till yesterday when i decided to see whats what with it



























damage on the little end bearing on conrod













this bolt was found in the sump and it looks like its a bolt that holds the rocker arms on , but there are none missing so i think its had some work before i got it and someone has left a bolt loose in the engine and its only just become a problem



we also found that that radiator has ballooned up and has started leaking so we think thats why it has got hot and then caused the engine to run hot and damaged the little end bearing, the block is all good as is the crank and pistons, im not 100% happy with the state of the conrod that the bearing let go on as it has a few scores on so will take it to my engineer and see what he says , there is also score marks on the cam journal on the head so it might need a new head to,so while its apart i might as re build the full lot, shopping list so far is

big end bearings
little end bearings
main bearings
crank seals
head bolts
head gasket
full chain and tensioner kit
full gasket set
piston rings
head will be pressure checked if the damage is ok and will have a skim and rebuilt with new seals and valves re lapped back in
block will have a hone and a skim to make sure its all straight

clutch was checked as i was going to fit a new one too but it had a new one just before i bought it (have reciept) and its like brand new still, (its been converted to single mass already too) but the ring gear is a little warn so will replace that


will also need radiator and going to put a water pump and water temp sensor on it as ive replaced the thermostat so thats all water system sorted , the plan was to fix it up then sell it as i dont use it enough and get a trailer but i just cant seam to want to get rid especially after spending all this money on it

surley after all the work you have put into that truck you cant sell it, I am working on mine all the time and not had to do half of what you have done, I want a set of those wheel trims, where did you get them from ?

cheers guys, i bought the trims from ebay a few years back , just had a look and there are none listed atm,

i dont want to sell it but in the last year ive prob done 1500 miles in it , so makes sense to buy a trailer as i dont need to tax/mot/insure another vehicle then

rear prob bearing



glow plugs



water pump





gearbox seals



gearbox oil



engine oil and filter



water temp sensor



timing chain kit with pullys



front timing chain cover





radiator



clutch fork



new clutch





release bearing



clutch and flywheel bolts



new solid flywheel





block back from having a skim, hone and a proper clean





cylinder head been skimmed, pressure checked, valves cleaned and re lapped in and had a proper clean



new no4 piston and rod





new piston rings for the other 3



big end and main bearings



head gasket, headbolts and gasket kit



crank seals and cylinder head gaskets



all ready to be assembled

well its been a few late nights but its all back up and running done 120 miles in it now with a oil change done ,

































forgot to take a pic of new clutch fitted























took 2 hours to get it to start it was a right twat

then when we did get it started the rear water pipe was leaking from the bracket so had to go scrappy and get another one

wicked glad to see it back on the road, you can not be serious about selling it now [ well not for a few years] the amount of work gone into this, WELL DONE.

QUESTIONS!
1. Engine stand/hoist - do you have a recommendation? Need to find one that is reasonably priced and that I can use on a driveway/home garage.
2. Can I be cheeky and ask for a rough cost of all the parts you bought for the rebuild? Is everything you replaced necessary for a rebuild or just because you wanted to make sure it was good?
3. How did you clean the inside of the block/crank/pistons? Engine degreaser or something else?
4. Any estimation on time spent doing all of this?

There was a advert on eBay for the fella making them he's over in York there are none on there atm but he did comment on the transit Facebook page if your on there
