[camper extraudinair]

Hi fellow Transiteers
I have just retrieved my Transit from the alligator infested swamp called secure storage.
I phoned up to let them know a fortnight in advance that i wanted to get my camper out
on the 1st of may i also confirmed by email.
When i arrived the very nice lady handed me the keys & said if i needed any cars moved
to let her know & she would get them moved.
I went over to the back of the swamp to see the old gel, there she stood looking a bit sad
after all i had not seen here since December the 3rd she was a bit dirty but not to much
moss on her as i had expected. the first problem i encountered was she was boxed in by
other cars. The son in law had taken me to collect the camper so i sent him to the office
to get the cars moved. The next problem was i have a key operated fuel switch & it had
seized up i squirted it i banged it but to no avail. I ended up putting a lever bar through
the keyring to increase leverage i prayed the key would not snap off.
I managed to turn it on with great difficulty. I then turned the ignition key she started
no problem after 5 months. The man came to moved the cars but could not as the both
had keyless ignition systems & flat batteries so could not be moved. The only other opp
tion was to reverse it out of a near impossible parking space i had to go backwards & for
wards at least 30 times no exageration & in the middle of it all the power steering deci
ded to stop working. as luck would have it the only bit of toolkit i had in the camper
was a volt meter.
I decided the problem was the relays for the electric power steering pump had packed
up as all the fused checked out alright. So in desperation i ripped out with brute fource
the live wire going to the pump & stuffed it into the battery terminal which started the
pump working. We them carried on manouvering it out of the very tight parking spot.
So off we jolly well go.
At the first roundabout the power steering packed up so drove it home down the motor
way as it is not needed in a streight line. when i got off the motorway i pulled up &
put the wire back on the battery & parked it in the garden.
The next day i rewired the pump but also found the reversing wired had been severed
& chewed by some little creature's. so rewired that as well ready for the next day.
The next morning armed with vitals tea sugar milk & fresh water took of for Beaulie
motor museum. I was absolutly pissing down with rain but as it was supposed to be
such a big do i did not want to miss it.
On the way i caught up with a couple of mk2 cortina's they pulled into a service
station so i followed the in the see if they were going to the show as it was called
simply ford. Just as i pulled in the wipers packed up.
what a lucky place to pack up as i could not see a thing. A quick phone call to the
AA brought a patrol man to my aid who managed to get one working & off i went.
Just as i was about to turn in to the show the engine started to faulter.
I just made it into the entrance when it died completely. Another call to the AA
brought another quick responce. After a long chat we decided it was possible the
fuel filter so off he went in search of said item.
An hour later he returned & fitted said item the camper fired up immediatly so
we thought it was cured but to confirm it he cut open the old one which was
only about two years old but had not done a lot of miles it was full of crap so
job done. Or so we thought.
Sighned paper work & off i went into the show but did not make it through the
gated at it cut out & would not start cut a long story short got a piggy back home.
The show was very dissapointing as there was only about 10 transits there.
Hopefully fuel problem sorted going to Hayling Island tomorrow the 10th of May.

lack of use causes all the said problems, the worse thing for any vehicle is standing,,apart from being trapped in the problems were not bad for a mk1 stood out for 6 months
