MK 4 Recovery

Postby cherry1809 » Thu Oct 15, 2015 1:04 pm

Started off by removing all the Monster Energy stickers.
Plans are a Mk5 dash, two single seats from a Mk5 Escort van or similar, lock box in between the seats with some better speakers than are in the footwells at the minute (potatoes will be better) and fit a compressor/tools in the underside lockbox.
Already has air bag suspension on the rear, and hasn't been welded on the front, yet.
Will also be going Kwaka green to match the rest, with a pressed vented bonnet, which also needs spraying.
Has anyone looked into swapping engines from the Iveco? Or is that too much of a ball ache?

That's Charlie Ford's old truck from Exeter, he built it. It originally had a horsebox type body on it and the cab was yellow before being painted black. It wasn't a AA recovery

If you work with Charlie ask him to show you the pictures of when he built it

I don't ever recall the AA having Transit recoverys later than the MK3 spec lifts.
They were usually DAF 7.5 tonners

They'd have been double cabs were they?

Mot was due, and didn't do too bad.

One tyre
Front side light bulbs
Number plate
Steering UJ coupling

All done and going back in tomorrow for a re test
While I was at the breakers I also picked up an undamaged driver seat, and proper steering wheel. Which replaces the iffy leather Saab seat and deep dish rally steering wheel. Much better driving position now :)

Thankyou :)
Still a bit of bodywork to straighten out, then a bit of paint.
Might try and put the front bumper and grill back to standard too.
I quite like the boggo look of the original front end.
