Back with a mk7 this time!

Postby dirtydog » Sun Aug 14, 2016 9:18 pm

Thought I'd start a little progress thread for my new to me mk7.
So a few details first, 115 350 rwd, lwb, med roof, has a few toys as standard including heated screen, leccy mirrors, front fog lights, auto lights and auto wipers 8)

Previous owner was a builder and it was a bit of a mess when I bought it, very dirty but it runs well

As you can see its filthy! And it smells really bad of diesel in the back.
Got a few plans and ideas for it but first up is cleaning it inside and out so I started with the inside

I stripped all the ply lining out of the back and got to cleaning it up

That took all afternoon. The dirt was about 15mm thick up near the bukhead where they stopped short with the ply on the floor
Swept out a lot of dirt and sand.
The floor is mostly ok, worst bit is by the side door and the side door step has a hole in it and it's full of dirt underneath, so I guess I'll be replacing the step

I have a fair sized list of things that need to be done and things that I want to do to it

First up is clean up the floor (couldn't find my wire brush today) and paint it, then ply line it and build some racking in the back so I can keep it tidy then I'll start on the cab and then the outside.

Other plans include in no particular order, side bars, a handful of marker lights, sport style front bumper, reversing camera, wind deflectors, maybe some heated seats, alloy wheels, roof rack/bars, led interior lighting, etc etc  8)

Edit: and a trip to vantuner for an egr delete

If you plan on putting marker lights on the sides do it before you build the racking as its easier to wire up unlike me who had to struggle in a 6 inch gap :D you can get all different colours of 12v 6 led marker lights on ebay £10 for 10 lights I got a mixed pack of 30 (10 clear, 10 red and 10 amber) for £30 and 10 amber for another £10 all running on the side light circuit, before you choose your colour make sure you check the legal legislation for vehicle lights (you don't want your botty polished by the Sweeny).

Floor doesn't look too bad what are the inner arches like. N

Side markers I was just going to go with some in the side bars.

Yeah the floor isn't bad at all just a bit of surface rust except the step. Inner arches are ok, passenger side one is a bit battered where it had no boxing but other than that they're good

Got a bit more done today, started with removing the glue residue from the sign writing but it's tedious and I got bored after 1 side

So I got to work on the rear floor

Started with this

After a going over with a wire wheel and drill

Treated with Jenolite
image.jpeg

And primed

Should get some more of the floor done tomorrow. Once I've treated the rust I'll probably just hammerite it or rustoleum on it

Yep it certainly has promise, the only thing that may hold it back is me

All the sticker glue residue is now gone, have picked up some Farecla stuff from the local halfrauds and gave it a try on a little bit and it works well removing a lot of the small scratches and the sticker shadowing. Although I think they tried to remove the signewriting with a brick as there's quite a lot of deep scratches :x

Done a little bit more to the floor but nothing worth taking a picture of!

Fuel cap flap got its first coat of paint tonight as well

Managed to get the rusted bolts on the bulk head cleaned up enough to get them out with my little dewalt Impact driver just need to decide whether it's worth cleaning it up or just replacing with a better one. It's got a fair bit of rust on it, escpeially at the bottom and also a 10cm X 10cm hole cut in it :?
