So, out came the rear

The passenger arch seems to be the worst so made a start on that

Think I've caught it at the right time before it got much worse

Arch itself is pretty solid, so I'm taking all the underseal off to repaint it after welding

Good work there.....keep the rust at bay, and glad to see the updates....like you say it’s all bloody Facebook now and I don’t use that.

One rear arch now fully cleaned up and underseal removed. Hopefully get the rest done during the week so my welder mate can sort out on Friday. Need the van back together for racing end of the month

Whilst trying to find out why my glovebox 12v socket wasn't working, I think I've broken the cigarette lighter too. Spark off the multimeter when trying to read the voltage and its now dead and the fuse is fine :(
Something else to add to the list

Glad I double checked, as with trying a different fuse, both sockets work so the fuse I swapped in previously must have been goosed too
Saves a few quid and effort = happy days.
Next part of my budget multimedia system arrived

£2.75 delivered for a 3m cable to run through the bulkhead so I can watch stuff on my phone in bed without then having to get out to put the phone on charge before going to bed :D

Can't say I've tried that  Normally much more boring and either onboard videos to learn the track or QI to fall asleep to.

Started cleaning up the other rear arch tonight. Despite looking in better condition than the other before I started, in some places its worse so I'm very glad I started doing this now. Hopefully be finished by the weekend and ready for welding and paint :D

Cheers. When picking up a rotavator for doing the garden from HSS earlier the guy there congratulated me saying its great to see a young lad fixing something up rather than just buying something else. Didn't think I was that young but there you go

Fuses arrived (how is anyone making money selling a pack of 10 for 99p and posting them here?!?!) but I had ordered full size instead of the mini blades

Rear arches repaired and reinforced
ImageIMG_20180708_133523 by danbougourd, on Flickr

Just need seam seal, paint and then tempted to carpet them to match the roof. Then time to put everything back in

There's a saying "if you can piss, you can paint". I used to think I was pretty good at pissing. I can do it standing up, sitting down, no handed etc.
My painting skills though

It looks much better in the pics believe me but I can always redo it again at a later date. Perhaps when I can get the van inside somewhere for a rub down of the body to sort that

Major setback today

Mrs was only using it to nip up the road and managed to drag it along a stone wall when pulling out of a carpark. Was just going to get her to put a claim on but thanks to the advice on here, decided that may not be the best idea.

Door wouldn't open and van locking was playing up where the door thought it was open. Managed to find I can lock it using the turn handle on the inside of the door and think I have found the problem

ImageIMG_20180715_225116 by danbougourd, on Flickr

When the time is socially acceptable for me to make loud hammering noises I'll be bashing the door out in the hope I can get that plug back together, although it looks like it might be fooked :(

Hopefully wont be so it'll then just be a new door and bill from the bodyshop for the wife

Couldn't get to it and having had second thoughts, phoned the insurers today. Assessor has had a look but said the age and mileage could write it off

As some of you will have seen in my other thread, the estimators repair costs sent to the insurance company was rather eye-watering so I was expecting the van to be written off. Somehow, it wasn't (I suspect the insurers engineers told the bodyshop their quote was taking the piss and that they would have to fix it for £x amount of they'd go elsewhere) so goes in for repairs in a few weeks and I can then hopefully continue my project thread.

Hoping I can throw a bit of cash the painters way so he tidies up the other little bits whilst its in there so I can then move onto the wheels and suspension :D
