My new van from ebay.

Postby steady72 » Fri Jul 27, 2007 7:34 pm

Well I went to pick this up this morning. Drove 110 miles home with no problems other than the temp gauge went cool on the motorway. No thermostat?

Image

Owner told me a little history that was backed up with stuff found in the van.
Image

Apparently it was owned by hull electrical university and was a radio van used by the students as a field van to test their knowledge of operating radio. The box on the roof is where the hydraulic radio mast was.
Image

One of the lecturers there sold it to the guy who the last owner bought it off.
Believed genuine 30k on the clock. Considering the way it drove id be inclined to believe that. Even taking into consideration that its been standing and things may be stiff id still say it was a dam better drive than my k reg van after 110 mile shake down trip home. Used about 20 pounds of fuel on the way back. Though I was hammering it at times. Cruises nicely at 55 to 60. Will overtake at 70..down hill lol.

Front end ropey with welding needed behind wheels and new x-member needed. Any advice guys ?

Image

The rest of the van is pretty much like the foot well. Doors are just as good.

SVO sticker.. anyone have the codes?

Could do with some gutter repairs.
And maybe the engine out of my old faithful!!

nice buy 8) i'd loose the chimney tho

is it the MOT testers markings on the front valance :? :?:

if so i'd do the entire crossmember - just as easy as patching it and you'll get a proper job - good for years to come 8)

Yup testers chalk, tend to agree she needs full x-members and possibly front hangers remade.
Could do with two wings and front panel with a bonnet as well, may as well make the front as good as the rest. And need rid of the box on the roof!

SVO code have two columns, option and selection.

Code 1/ option= 3000 selection= 1lrs
Code 2/ option= 3247 selection= nothing under selection.
Code 3/ option= 3063 selection= 2
Code 4/ option= 3124 selection= 4A
Code 5/ option= 3245 selection= 13

I suspect at least one of those options refer to a rear load area heater fed with water from engine bay. Looks like a factory job.
