Well at the moment I'm getting all the bits I need from a couple of donors to complete this project .

I had a bit of luck with the ropey mk5 recovery I got to use the body from....after driving it I found it to be nicely geared. So a quick check of the tab on the axle revealed it to be a pretty rare 4.63 ratio which was a serious result as most are 5.13!! Should travel nicely with the di turbo and taller axle gearing..

So at the moment I'm getting the axle and anything else of use left in it...want to get it out of the garage before something else catches all the rust that's falling out of it lol!!

What is your wheelbase now since you stretched it?

i havent actually measured the wheelbase!!...

i stretched the chassis to suit the propshaft and body from the donor!

i do know the whole truck will measure 23 ft in total with the body fitted thanks to the 15 foot body!!

well this has turned into a very slow burning project thanks to other stuff going on, and another reason for the slow progress is that i wont have indoor storage for the finished truck with the body fitted till the end of the summer at least, so ive been stalling a bit on purpose for the last while, as it fits easily in the garage as it is and doesent really hamper other work going on....

so in the meantime, the plan is to get the cab and front end fully built up and finished, along with mocking up and fitting the rear air bag setup i intend to run....

got a few more bits done recently,..doors fitted and built up with the best trim and rubbers etc from the few breakers i have!!

Image

some of the breakers look a bit worse for wear but still plenty of useful bits!!!

I've also made a start on inside the cab...

Along with a couple of layers of dynamat sound proofing I cleaned up and fitted a pretty decent original sound deadening pad...
Should help to keep the di noise out!

I also scourced a reasonably good dash board as all my own were either drilled in the past or badly discoloured!!ImageImageImageImageImage

just looking back at my posts on this thread,..i cant believe this project is going on over 2 years now!! should have been finished ages ago but life just gets in the way i guess!!

well ive managed to free up some time again to stick into it of late, and its deffo moving in the right direction now i think.....

made a start on fitting up the front, screen scuttle and bonnet fitted, rest of it to follow soon...

Image

also got the body sitting back on to mock up and make the back section of the chassis to support the beaver tail and to mount the towbar onto....

i came up with a plan regarding the towbar, which will only be used a handfull of times a year id imagine...so rather than having it sitting there as an obstruction most of the time, i got my hands on a detachable unit from a volvo s80 for 50 quid which was a result!

when the draw bar is detached, the mounting section and crossbar is mounted more or less above the level of the light panel so it wont get caught in kerbs etc...

so i can keep the drawbar in the side box and have it when needed!

dont know what happened this pic, lol!!

Image

Image

i wouldnt want it there all the time!!

Image

back chassis legs finished complete with towbar brackets...

Image

Image

after mocking up heightsetc,i also fitted the airbags to the rear which, along with the lower ambulance springs,.. should be a great addition id say....

Image

so next the body was lifted back up to complete the welding and paint the finished chassis....

Image

Image

so now the body is ready to be dropped back on for the final time thankfully!! then its axle and springs out for blasting and paint....its getting ever closer now!!
Image

hope to have more progress soon!!
