Bmw powered mk6 transit recovery build

Postby Bazmcl » Sun Mar 17, 2019 11:08 pm

Hi everyone, this is the build on my mk6 transit, i converted it to a 3.0 turbo diesel and its also now an automatic, engine And box from a e39 bmw 530d.
This was it when I got it

After removing the 2.4 engine I made up a frame for the engine and box from the bmw to make it easier to line up
Image

Engine is too long and wide so bulkhead needs to be modified

There was plenty of bits I didn't photo along the way, just was trying to get things done and would forget, engine mounts etc, on the front , I used the original mk6 crossframe, modified with some 10mm plate in the right positions then seam welded, moved the cross member forward a little, the rear mount I made from box section with some supports, and the rubber mounts from the bmw engine are used,

All bolted up and in

have you had the BMW engine running in it yet? do they take much wiring to get them to run?

Ye, the project is pretty much finished, I plan on getting it's doe/mot done this week, so I can tax it and use it, regards the wiring, it's not a difficult setup, the ecu, glow relay, tcu and a couple of fuses for accesorys are all stored together in the bmw, so I could remove them together, then your left with the wiring that would have gone from the ecu back into the car, for the pedal, ews/immobiliser and gear shifter, the fuel pump is triggered from ecu, I have it wired to where a fuel pump relay would have been in the mk6 interior fuse /relay board, and starter etc are all pinned into the original for fuses, you can set the immobiliser up with either the immobiliser box from the car and the original key, or fit an emulator. It's still running the 75hp mk6 diff it's high ratio think it's around 5.27 so i want to change that once it's been on the road a little while

This was the brackets made for rad and intercooler

I shot blasted the engine bay then and primed, painted, made some new brake lines and refitted it all up

I had this aluminium block machined to hold the fuel pre supply pressure sensor, used banjo fittings and it also returns the excess pressure back to the tank, you can see in the top left corner of the pick where the engine loom enters the cab, I made a little plate it unbolts to allow the wiring to go in

I made the rear light bar, that it flips down to allow access to the ramps, either end has a solid insert with a threaded hole, I had 2 bolts made up that have a 10mm shoulder, when tightened up they act as pins for the light bar to swivel on

I fitted rear air bags for assist, I made up the whole kit. Brackets from 6mm plate, made new bump stops, fitted a compressor with air drier in the engine compartment where the air filter box used to be, and air tank on the chassis
