I got sent a link to an ebay add that wasn't there when I'd looked earlier, on the wknd in question.
I'd been chatting to another member about replacing my van or reshelling it in it's current form. Within that conversation I mentioned my hope for fitting one of those elusive 3.2 5pots into the 4x4 mk7 to make it a proper tool.
Needles to say, there it was, as if by magic, a 3.2 MK7 in "limited" spec LWB and at what I thought was a very reasonable price. BUT and there's always a "But" it was a medium roof, so not easy to stand up inside AND it's got the wrong axle ratio for mating with the front diff.
So armed with that info I called the seller the next day at lunch time and asked a few questions.
I hummed and haw'd all afternoon and at 6.30 I called the guy back and put my deposit down on it.
The kudos of owning a 3.2 was going to be mine

I got the train down at 6am on the Thursday morning from Stirling to Bristol.
A quick bit of paper work. Kick the tyres an check the levels. Then it was off on the long drive home.

The van performed brilliantly on the way home. and I had lots of fun putting the foot down and holding off challenges from boy racers and bmw's gave myself a fright a few time with the 200ps shoving an empty all over the road

The van was a builders van, so, needles to say we set about ripping up the floor, and washing out the sand and gravel from it's rear and there's not one panel that didn't have scratch marks so it'll be going for a full respray before it starts working.

There are a number of regulars on here who'll know the background story with what's going to happen here, for those who've stumbled across this thread, to clarify some points that may get glossed over you can go see the forerunner to this project On the namby pamby thread.

Ooooh, liking the look of that!

Is that bumper/grille combination peculiar to the 3.2...?

Yes indeed Mr Ned is quite correct, the front end is particular to the 3.2 and it sticks out that far for a reason...
All that space you have to do the belts on a normal rwd ain't there in a 5pot. And there's buggerall space behind the grill for anything either,
Was hoping I'd manage to get some lights recessed in there but doesn't look like it.

I'm sure someone said that although the extra front bit is for the 3.2 bumper although the standard bumper does actually still fit

Maybe 50% is for the looks? :P

It was one of my original ideas and swap all electrics etc. But time money and space knocked that one on the head.

Me too you'll have to come to mania next year to see it for yourself

Well lots of other bits n bobs getting ordered over the last few weeks.
Progress has been slow but got a real push this week as it's due at the painters at the end of the week

Been picking up other bits from the breakers too, full set of door locks and strikers etc £ and a bag full of miscellaneous parts sofar totaling £46
Just need to sort replacement cab floor, arch covers, door seals, rear bumper corners and step.

Today though the engines gone back together with new idler &tensioner, inlet gaskets, and fresh coolant.
New fuel filter and she runs sweet, just got the learns to do and check injector codes are ok.
Timed to fire up the IDS again then it's onto finishing the rewiring, then ply lining and get the racking in.

Once all that's done it'll be time to swap all the running gear and parts from the big guinea pig into this baby.

Ooh it's going to be good.

Ps more pics to follow soon

I'm well looking forward to seeing the pics, it's sounding ace!

New manifold gaskets, you say? Bloody luxury. Can't shift a single bolt on mine, even the ones that aren't rusty! They look like 10mm but my 10mm sockets all turn on them, like they're actually more like 9.75mm. They're not bloody imperial are they??!

Where's Loot? BLOODY FORD!
