mk3 lwb twin wheel

Postby oldskooler » Mon Jul 29, 2019 9:53 am

well, as if i didnt have enough projects already, i just couldnt pass on this one as i think it has great potential...

late mk3 di twin wheel, painted from new, with grease and burnt oil everywhere that couldnt be seen, all the underside, inside doors, door shuts etc... never had a towbar, and little or no dents..

someones had a go at fitting rear outer arches,...not happy with how they were done, so will rip em out and fit another pair,..inner arches are perfect....

otherwise it wont need any other panels, just a few very small localised repairs..

i think it will make a smashing van with a strip and paint!

couple of pics....

the oil and grease coating really did a good job of protecting it!!

back inner corner....the whole underside of the van looks like this!!

just to be sure the coating did a good job, i cleaned off a section under the drivers step, (which is almost non existent in most vans ive had), to reveal the factory white underneath...lovely sight to see!! :D :D

it will be a while before i get stuck into this one...gotta get my mk3 recovery finished for a start!! so its going into storage for a while till i get around to it....

been thinking about what way ill go with this project....

luckily ive got a pas box sitting in my stash for it, which i plan on fitting along with a turbo di and 4.63 axle..otherwise i plan to leave the van more or less standard as they seem so scarce nowadays....

one thing that does come to mind is that they sit very high as standard when empty...

i love the look of this van, even though i know its a totally different kettle of fish being so modified!!

but im thinking mine would look much sweeter a bit lower than it is, just still looking standard on its original wheels etc...

so along with the 4.63 axle from the mk3 ambulance im breaking,...ill also try fitting the springs which seem a nice bit lower in the ambys...

im hoping they might give the van a nicer stance!

should be lots of other useful bits in the breaker as well!

it has a di fitted but was originally v6 so it had the 4.63 axle...

mite have a play with the springs the next day im free....
