Well we've had a few days of rain since fitting the roof vent and all is dry inside the van, next job is battening and insulating the floor

the floor now has some sound deadening stuff down, battened with roof battens and insulated with kingspan

IMG_5600.JPG

Need to get some aluminium tape to go over the battens/joins to create a vapour barrier

Have a towbar fitted but the wiring was pretty shoddy so I ripped that out a few weeks ago and then dug out the plug and play Witter wiring loom and got that fitted this afternoon, just need to tidy up the wiring

This is all the dirt and rubbish that fell out from the bumper corner and from inside the void in the body beneath the rear light

It’s surprising how much muck you can get out of the van when converting to a camper ex tarmac crew van enough tarmac to do half the drive next van ex block paving van that finished the drive then the ex double glazing van full of bits of glass and little brackets for god knows what this last one being a ex bus chewing gum and toffee rappers. :D

I'm following this with interest as im in almost the same position! Ex network rail mess van converting to a camper.
Those ally plates are a right bugger to get up! There must have been a few tubes of adhesive holding them down!

What insulation are you using, looks like thermafleece?

Yeah those sheets took a bit to get them up and man handle them around, still a few £ in the pocket at the scrappies

Insulation is the recycled plastic bottle stuff from b&q, appears to be the same as the dodo thermo fleece but is about half the cost for more material. £16 for just under 3sq meter, dodo is £30 for just under 2sq meters
25mm kingspan on the floor and same will be going on the roof.

The recycled plastic bottle stuff is the best I ever used no itching useing it and I had to take a panel out of my last van to replace the side marker led lamp I’d sealed in never expecting to replace it the insulation had been in 10 years al I did was waxoil the sides of the van before putting it in and boarding the van and it was as good as new brilliant stuff unlike the glass fibre stuff.

Ordered some new rear light bulb clusters and connectors from tpuk as the original wires had been butchered with scotchlocks when the old towbar wiring was put in and they were looking a bit unhealthy

IMG_6212.JPG

IMG_6213.JPG

I would've preferred to solder and heatshrink the connections but couldn't find my plug in soldering iron and my gas one was empty so butt connectors and heatshrink did the job

Whilst I had my electrics stuff out I knocked up a temporary hook up lead from an old extension cable to connect the van to the house so I have some power in there

I also found a 12s towing socket and some grey 7 core cable to go with it in my garage, pretty sure I bought it for our shogun but never fitted so thought I might as well fit that to the camper. So wired that in up to the battery and ordered one of the smart towing relays to power it as it's conceivable that we'll need to tow a caravan at some point and is going Tom be easier to run the wiring now before I start fitting panels and stuff inside.

Need to get my big sockets and breaker bar to get the towball off and remove some of the spacers that have been fitted as well

Got my 240v hook up and consumer wired in and tested

And I didn't even electrocute myself or anyone else!

Just temporarily fitted at the moment so I've got some power to charge stuff whilst I'm working in it
