There's not really any such thing as a battery that's too powerful, so long as it's a 12v battery anything over and above the minimum size will be fine, and will make starting easier.
The alternator will charge anything that's in there, if it's working correctly. If your alternator light is on, there could be a problem with the rectifier diode pack inside the alternator, but it could still be providing a charge.

That's exactly what I thought but wasn't sure if this smart cable affected that!

Took the old alternator back to Euros today and had the surcharge refund processed.

They also changed the battery to a 71 ah 100 battery and its still an exide unit. Although the light is still on. Gonna try clear the fault codes and also check voltage. I also received a refund for the difference in price.

Ordered an aux belt too, collect it on Monday afternoon.

PPM Updated again.

I've had a similar issue on a connect before, the old smart alt had gone rouge and fried the part of the ecu that controled the charging, i ended up fitting an older style dumb alt and a relay to isolate the exciter wire when the ign was off or it flattened the battery, hopefully it's a simpler issue for you :?:

I have heard a couple examples of this, hopefully doesn't result to this!

Partial update.

The van has been cleaned out and no longer smells like mould and dirt and pi** etc. It's not perfect but it is far better. I took some photos along the way but probably not enough but still not at the finished product.

- Van was cleaned externally. Pre wash, brushes around sills etc, snow foam, 2 bucket, wheels & glass.
- Ex company sticker regarding no tool left inside etc removed
- Ford badge residue removed
- Connect badge residue and half a badge removed. (Transit badge currently remains but doors are going to be replaced)
- Headlights restored
- Plastics removed and cleaned with degreaser and apc & brushes
- Van rear floor hoovered, swept, degreased, apc & brushed etc.
- Footwells & seat bases cleaned
- MK6 Fiesta ST steering wheel fitted (Airbag hiccup, more on that)
- MK2 Focus ST seats wet vacced
- MK1 focus carpet deep hoovered
- Dash cleaned somewhat removing all gunk and smells including grimey vents
- Door cards wiped down, will return to these soon

Anyway some photos.

Seats being wet vacced (no upclose detail shots sorry)

I would still like to have more work done in the rear when time allows but in the time frame we worked to it is far better!

With the steering wheel, the MK6 Fiesta airbag loom plugs straight in but the wiring is different so it brings up a fault code. Great. Going to cahnge the covers over and have the new cover on the old airbag and have the code cleared then.

The seats were cleaned and dried and ready to be fitted upon noticing the drivers seat base had broken underneath so it has had to be welded and actually looks stronger now that I imagine it would have been from factory but I have no idea! So I am currently driving around with 1 original seat in .

Image

And look what got welded on as a joke

Image

Anyway I never actually took any photos of the van clean, by the time all the work was finished it was dark and raining, SHOCK. Once the seats are in and all the plastics are back in I will get photos. The carpet is in but not yet complete.

I have just purchased and exhaust system from Euros and SEVEN exhaust rubbers from Ford. They are all hanging under there so thought may aswell replace them all. It is banging around in the back now badly.

More updates soon.

PPM Update.

Little more spent this week and 315 miles covered. Think this is the lowest the PPM has been so far so that is a plus sign for sure.

This week and next I should be racking up some miles.

Image

I have collected the last of my exhaust parts from ECP and has been a nightmare so I will not be surprised if something is wrong. I collected my 7 exhaust rubbers from Ford today also. Was told at Ford my van was not ever fitted with a backbox so I made that clear at ECP and I appear to have the right exhaust. SHould hopefully have more photos this week of work and interior together.

Photo update. Please bear in mind photos do good justice the bonnet and rear doors are mangled and oxidised. I will get a couple of iphone photos unedited to get some real life images haha.

Couple marks on the seats through fitting. Will get them cleaned up soon again and the carpet is dirty, I also need mats. You can see the carpet isn't a perfect fit but it is miles better than how I got the car so I have 0 complaints.

Exterior.

Will be getting new gaitors here, they were caoted and had holes in.

Couple photos of the rear  This needs further work but it's great for now.

Also had the lock replaced on the van for the fuel flap from the new lock set and more locks will soon start to be changed over to finish this.

I mentioned recently I went to a car event in Katowice, Poland recently called Ultrace recently known as Raceism, here is Part 1 of 2 of the cars indoors if anyone is interested in the stance stuff

Feedback always welcome and hopefully more Transit updates soon! Exhaust & Rubbers etc due to go on tomorrow andthis is going to be another big change for the van to not hear that banging over humps.

So my friend came to my unit Thursday evening to replace the exhaust on the Transit Connect, the old one managed to come off with out too many issues but of course it is never straight forward.

Just another image to show how the droplink had been sat in the exhaust.

Image

The hole it left.

Image

Getting the old one off caused some damage along the way.

Image

Although the replacement looked very similar, Euros managed to supply one for a LWB which meant me sorting a lift home 25 miles from the unit and hopping on a train early doors to meet my friend who took me to another euros and had a friend sort the correct parts for me.

Can see here the issue.

Image

Anyway the new one went on all correctly and used 5 of the 7 rubbers suppled by Ford so may try and return them or just keep them as spares, its probably not worth the hassle.

I also had the aux belt replaced, the pulley seems fine.

Image

Image

Well needed and an additional peace of mind.

Sorry for the late post in terms of my weekly PPM update but last week I drove 457 miles! The most miles I have done in a week in the van, I drove from Essex to Heathrow T5 & back and drove faultlessly even with the battery light remaining.

I also drove the van to Norfolk this week for a photoshoot with a friends Mazda RX7 FC & got a couple of photos of his BMW F80 M3, they will end up on the website at some point in the near future.

I didn't spend any money on parts last week but I did have to cover some labour costs so here is the latest PPM and a new low.

Boring weekly update, sorry.

New low PPM again, a week of no spending and 396.6 miles covered last week.

Image

Hopefully be getting a few little bits sorted soon.

Side note - there is another new post on my website, its Part 2 from the last link I posted. Feel free to check it out if you like here - https://www.wearecerti.uk/blog/ultrace-2020-part2

Update

Well there is no update, 2 weeks of driving, no hiccups as such, just still an ABS light and battery light, it has just worked and soked up 400+ miles.

Current PPM update and I have added a £ sign to clear up any confusion and a new £0.80 low!

Image

Bit of a change or circumstances due to lockdown and job cancellation etc.

I will now be sorting a Ford Focus gearbox, a flywheel and new drive shafts. It's going to be a bit of a hit but it's a big tick off of the list and then leaving the cambelt and water pump.

It's going well though, I can get in and drive confidentely, it is very noisy inside though and will start working on this soon, I spoke with my insurance too and I can signwrite the van which I was led to believe was an issue when I first took the policy out for some reason.

A few new website posts for anyone interested too. It was a congested few weeks for content uploading.
