What a busy weekend. Slightly weird working outside shirtless but looking like it was snowing from cutting up the insulation board. Got the new door on, insulated inside as well as some liberal dinatrol for the rusty bits. Sealed up the window with sikaflex (90% of the van is now made of this) to help stop condensation rotting it from the inside again. Still have the old door which was the only thing on the van without rust so will make a repair panel from it for future use of this doesn’t hold up.

Also sorted out what I hope is the very last of the previous owner bodges. Not really
a surprise why my indicators and fog lights were in disco mode. Does suggest it was adapted for a tow bar though which is a bit worrying for an 85ps van that was also abused with carpet and christmas cards.

This insulation stuff is a ball ache. The roof was the easiest with 25mm board. didn’t glue the side sections down (sticks like s**t turbo works well) so it’s a bit easier to get to the wiring in future. Packing the sliding door was the hardest but I haven’t finished all the sides yet which are odd shapes. Feels really odd filling this van with foam after all the problems I’ve had but closed cell board is not a sponge like open cell spray foam and there will be a vapour barrier.

Also found the time to install the mk7 shifter and cables. works great but still have some issues with it slipping out of 1st, 2nd and reverse (same as with the mk6 shifter) if you don’t hold the gearstick there for a couple of seconds - hoping this can be adjusted with the cables but if it’s anything in the gearbox (syncros) i’ll just have to live with it.
