Thanks loot. Got offered a new job so I’m driven by maybe being able to afford to get it done, make it good on the inside and get going on some post-pandemic adventures. Does feel like I’m doing the repairs to last 10-15 years rather than just chucking the panels on and hoping to get away with a few years rust free. Earning some bucks Deliveroo cycling to pay for paints, primers and sealant!

Thanks Chug! I really hope so.

Was given a new key ring for it yesterday

Finding pictures of open roads in my friend’s fancy cycling magazine and pretending it’s working again. I think its called ‘visualisation’. May or may not be accompanied by diesel engine and FWD skid noises

Big day today. Removed the last of the bodge jobs. 1cm thick of filler on the side door sill. Looks like they didn’t get the results they wanted trying to pull it out with screws.

Also well underway fitting the rear door central locking actuator and moving on to adapt the side door while I wait for repair panels to arrive in the post. It’ll be amazing not having to crawl between the seats to unlock the loading doors.

Got bored of laying on the floor today and the weather is miserable so I treated myself to working our how to get an aftermarket actuator to work the rear door lock. Next stage will be some reinforcing plates around the lock to make it less vulnerable to a tin opener.

Just in case anyone wasn’t bored of pictures of the underside of a Mk.6 I thought I’d share today’s progress...

Never, ever have I got to know so much of the underneath of a vehicle.

Right. Time to give this stitch welding another go and see if I can't muck it up this time by putting too much heat into the panel. My reward for doing that on the rear drivers side quarter is a lot of filler/sand/filler/sand/repeat.

Rain stopped plat before dark. Looking forward to a long weekend of no rain but freezing temperatures instead :(

Unstitch, cut, panel off, wire brush, paint, alight, weld, grind, paint, repeat.

The van saw off its third angle grinder since August. Defo on the downhill with this work now. Got to push hard to get it done next week. Chassis rails and front inner wings after I’ve finished stitching the outer panels.

I'm aiming for an MOT re-test before the end of the month. Just ordered 2mm sheet for the rear chassis rails and then it's onto the front aprons...
