Kris’s Mk1 SWB Transit build (Hopefully PD powered)

Postby Krisdupreysgarage » Mon Oct 04, 2021 7:32 pm

Hi all

This is my latest purchase, a Mk1 SWB Transit

Plans are to make it into a sort of “Day van” for going to car shows in with the family, and for touring about in around the country.

No, it hasn’t been in a fire… the previous owner had it blasted then it was left outside so I’ll have a bit of work ahead to get the surface rust off. Otherwise though, it came from Malta, and seems to be solid in the right places!

I’ll update as I go on, unsure just yet when I’ll be starting, but hopefully make some progress soon!

Kris

looks a challenge :D :D the malta climate has certainly helped keep a lot of mk 1 s considering most were 7 year old when they went

Change of plan, no longer using a Mk4 golf, a friend donated this today and I will be stripping it shortly for everything useful! AWX engine code, PD130 with the engine the correct way round!

Hopefully making a start soon :)

Intro video is now live! I plan to get the van lifted from storage in the next few weeks and get it to the workshop :)

unless you already have the V5c for it.... I would try and get it before spending too much time or money on it?

There have been a fair few challenges registering maltese vehicles recently

Matt, do you not need a valid MOT for importing?

Thanks

Thats a good point, I can't remember. Thinking about it you probably do (MOT on chassis no) - in which case you need to spend time and money on it!!

Yea, when I imported my Mk2 Granada earlier this year I needed to MOT it on chassis number. Might be different with this as it’s exempt tho? I’ll check!

Thanks

So, I have now bought the gearbox to make the PD130 RWD.

VW Crafter 2012 gearbox, HVW9062605200 part number.

I already have the adaptor plate, now I need to try and find a good second hand DMF and clutch setup, and also a cable set to mount on the dash.

I lifted the Transit and brought it home, and had a good look around it. Video should be live this weekend!

Thanks

Kris

Ahhh forgot about that bit! I got an MOT exempt vehicle (1928 Morris) registered without an MOT. A club inspection identified that it was substantially complete but not in running order. Details were sent to DVLA and after they rejected it twice (having split it in to 2, obviously I had 2 rejections as each one had half the info missing!) I got an ID and logbook
