1984 Transit 100 popular made in cologne plant?

Postby CheckeredDemon » Wed Dec 29, 2021 2:43 pm

Hi,

My 1984 Mk2 Transit 100 popular VIN Plate is in German and states it was manufactured in the Koln (Cologne) plant August of 1984. I can't find any reference to Transit vans being manufactured in this plant during this period? Were many Transits made during this period in this plant? :?:

I knew Fiesta and Capri and Granada/Scorpio were made in the Cologne plant as well as the famous 2.8 V6 engine, but never heard of Transits from there, and a quick search indicates Mk2 Transit's were not built there, but the earliest van to use the Transit badge, the Taunus, was built there up to 1965 .........

Thanks very much Chug.

That is what I understood as well, but the VIN plate (attached) matches the VIN stamped in the body and everything else on the van. It is matching numbers in the original colour. What is also curious is that it has a CAV and not Bosche fuel pump?

If you give me the full VIN number I'll have a look and see what info I can find although I'm not sure if Ford ETIS will go back that far, but Ford euro HQ was Cologne and I believe they did do VIN plates there. It has GB in the VIN so I'm guessing its just the main Ford Logo and not where it was made?

Early mk2's had the York 2.4 and from 84 was the 2.5di, I assume it's the 2.5di you have? cav pumps were used on the York and earlier di engines.

Hmmm, I've been looking on Etis and other Ford vin decoders with no luck..... have you got a decode for the mk 2 vin plate Al?

I assumed the VIN layout was the same as mk3/4/5 transits and the only B I see is in what I thought was box 6 and relates to axle on those, box 8 on those is blank on Nel's :?

Position 8 in the number Chug not the box number.

WF0VXXG[B]VVEE76058

ASSEMBLY PLANT [position 8]
B = Halewood (united Kingdom) - Genk (Belgium) - Sao Bernado (Brazil)

Most of the VIN checkers are way out, one even had it as a 2014 C-Max  Others say the VIN is wrong as there should be a number where the first 'E' is

One had the year correctly as 1984, and I think the build plant is probably one of the 3 above, most likely Genk, I would think, as they were still making Transits there until the 2000's.

AH in the actual number, not the boxes  Have you got a list of the different letter codes then?

I haven't found any good guides for the number postions and what the different letters in them represent..... other than this haynes one, which I literally just found! which agrees with you that position 8 is the build plant pre 81, but it doesn't give all the codes, just A for the example used

Thanks,

The "Talk Ford" Decoder indicates that it was made in the Genk Plant.

Cheers,

that would seem most logical but it's rather weird as talk ford decoder says WF0 = Ford Werke A.G. (Germany) and position seven is G = Ford Germany (own assembly) :?:
One would have thought that each plant should have it's own unique code, typical of ford
