Mk7 resto

Postby Speedy1234 » Mon Jun 30, 2025 8:36 am

Hi guys, I’ve had a little 2010 swb mk7 since 2013, bought with 80k miles and now has 235k, has never gave any major bother at all. Few issues with rusty earths over the last few years and it’s had a couple of alternators and starters but that’s been pretty much it. It’s going brilliant, starts sweet as a nut in cold, never smokey and it’s zero oil leaks. But of course the rust wasn’t looked about till it was too late. I almost scrapped it but decided it’s been soo good to me I’m going to keep it alive. Chassis is all pretty good but cills, steps and inner arches are gone. It’s in at the minute getting new panels welded in and I’ll give it a full respray after that. In the engine end is there anything particular I should look about to keep it going. It’s actually never had a timing chain. Do I do that now with that high mileage engine or let it go and replace the engine? Thanks

I've repaired worse fella (2013 custom)
Engine wise at that mileage you'd want to put genuine(or alternative that uses genuine parts like ultra parts) timing chain kit, injector seal kit and routine servicing with quality oil like castrol magnatec 5w30 A5 and you'll get another 200kImage

That’s nice. I’m taking no part in the welding repairs myself. Yes it’s been serviced approx every 10k by myself using good quality 5w30 and genuine filters. It’s had injector seals a couple years ago and injectors tested when they were out replacing cam cover. I’ll do the timing chain before it’s back on the road.
