Wiring - swapping equipment from a custom to a non-custom

Postby juliantlee » Sun Jan 13, 2008 11:06 pm

Does any one know whether the wiring in one vehicle is the same as the next and it just a matter of plugging in other equipment. I have a 115ps turbo van and it not a custom. Can I transfer central locking, electric windows etc. I know already that a display with rev counter does not work even though it plugs straight in and everything else works. What would be missing that a custom model has to run the rev counter. Can anybody help ?

you need to run a wire from the alternator slate grey to the small plug pin 9 at the cluster.

as for the rest you may be lucky. if not swap the whole cab loom

So you've done this before. There are 2 clip in connectors and if I remember correctly, the larger cream/yellow clips into the side the rev counter is on. Can't be too sure as thevan is in Devon and I am in Gibraltar but I'll have a look next week. So the wiring loom inside the cab is independant to the wiring in the engine bay.. is that what you're saying ?

Thank you, I have alot to learn but I'm very keen. I have 3 transits at the moment and sold my orginal S-reg 100 SWB Custom a few weeks ago, but it was devoid of custom bits apart from the heated windscreen, as I took them all out. I appreciate the advise.
