martins semi camper conversion nearly finished

Postby matjammeg » Wed Feb 13, 2008 12:10 am

Hi all i purchased my 100lwb transit just before xmas 2007 and started to convert the rear area to accomodate seating/living area and tool storage for use in me and my sons autograss hobby.
the van was already ply panelled out so a lot of work already down.
first i cut the bulk head to fit my speaker box (15" sub with 6x9)

then built the rear bulhead to seperate the tool area and built bench and storage cupboards etc

then i started on the seat/fold out double bed

then i fitted an old lab sink to wash hands etc

last weekend my mate who i got the van from carpeted it out for me

i notice you have your semi back door hinge have had welding done.
did thay use to drop ie you have to spam to shut them before thay was welding up as my back drivers side top door hinge had broken ie spit and the door has free play as you can push it so it lines up might have to weld mine to 8)

looking into a 60w tube heater for night time ( but isnt that what the other half is for to keep feet warm, lol)
when my mate had the van, the doors split at the top hinges which is a common problem on these doors,i welded the right hand door for him first then the left hand door went,
because he is a carpet fitter he used to tie the rear doors open and hang long rolls of carpet of the doors,
not done too much welding on this van,so in very good condition for its age,
it gonna need a side panel and new wing in near future and will tackle them when it is needed.
only got this van because i know history of it as he has spent lots of dosh on it{last years mot needed all new rear brakes/cables/adjusters etc cost him £400 for them to do the work
and cam belt went 2 years ago bent two valves so that was another £200 )
van only cost me £250 so it was a real bargain
he has now got 54 plate t350 transit with much longer chassis so no hanging carpet anymore out of back doors
work still to do on my van is as follows
ps2 and tv for the kids
lcd screen on dash for reversing cam
rear exterior work lighting
front fogs/spots
marker lights etc
seat/bed cushions
more storage in back for odds and ends, pliers hammers etc
must all be done by middle of march for our racing seaon this year and also the van meeting in may
any suggestions on making this van better are always welcome

Good use of space and I like the light blue carpet, not so confined. Love to see more photos when you get the chance.
Im still trying to find some foam for the beds, the price has just shot up with the price of oil, what have you got planned for yours?

HI
i have sponge from previous transit just got to cut to size and make new covers to match new trim (blue)
got night heater now from B & Q for £10. it is a 200 watt frost heater all self contained and thermostaticly controlled
also got a maplins 600w inverter which i have fitted under the dash on top of the glove box
that way the battery cables that came with it reach the battery
just run some mains cable to the rear and put cooker type switch in line to isolate from power circuit when generator connected.
gonna do some more this weekend
more pictures to follow
