Mk6 Air Con. retro-fitting.

Postby 100 T280 » Wed Mar 05, 2008 12:56 am

Going for it now, and so far, it's been trickier than I anticipated. Expensive too........yes, I should have bought one with aircon in the first place

Removing the existing heater assembly

Heater unit removed.

Heater controls, aircon one is on the right. Heat is electrically and not cable controlled.

Image

The dimples in the bulkhead where the holes for the evaporator pipes need to be drilled  plus the one out of sight for the condensate drain pipe.

Image

Heater assemblies together, aircon one on the left. Can't fit it yet as I've got to get the ducting, that's different too

Compressor fitted.

Yes and they are still drilled by hand in the factory, the vans come off the production line and there is a bloke stood there with an air drill and hole saw!

Got the ducting today, they're totally different of course...

Fitting the ducting to the dashboard lugs

That's all fitted, and dashboard all back together, including experimental rev. counter instr. cluster...

...and single passenger seat.

Image

Accumulator...

Image

...and the pipework.

Image

Heater shut-off vacuum valve, still needs hose clips (evaporator couplings are at the top (taped up)

Image

What looks like the most difficult bit next, the tensioners, and belt :? :?

All pipes now coupled.......

...heater tested and working OK, vacuum solenoid and water shut-off valve seem to work, as does the temperature control, wish I could say the same about the instrument cluster....what a complete waste of time that was

Cheers! 8) , (the wiring is the really easy bit on a mk6, it's all the other stuff that's complicated)
