My new camper to be :)

Postby jamface » Tue Apr 29, 2008 1:18 pm

Got myself a 95 swb sht for weekends away and holidays etc so will no doubt be on here constantly to ask for help!

initial pictures are here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/james_sparkes/sets/72157604795155323/
I've just been cleaning up the insides at the moment - a load of gunk on the base underneath the shonky floor panelling which needs removing - yuck!

Current plans are:
- convert rear to living space to sleep 2 - bed will fold for sofa - more on that later.
- separate storage space for mtb and kit
- Leisure battery to rear

Problems to be fixed that I've found are:
- heater only works on 3 - any ideas?
- rear door seems a bit low on the hinges - again, any suggestions?

as a final comment - has anyone got anything interesting wired into the blanking buttons on the dash? I'm quite interested in getting rid of them or at least making them do something - doesn't need to be anything useful mind!

cheers,

Jam

With regards to the rear doors... im no expert but is there play in the hinges? ie. grab the bottom corner of the door and see how much you can raise it if its loose it might be worth finding new hinges.

After that you can get to the back of the hinges inside the van slacken them off, move the door and tighten back up..............................

Thanks a lot for the comments so far - took it out overnight to see how cold it gets at night so I can see how much it need insulating - doesn't seem as though it will need too much thankfully! However curtains/window tinting may be an idea after having been woken up at 5 by the light!

Drill a series of 4mm holes in one, et voila - a lollipop holder! Perfect for those long trips on the road! :D

Hi,

Firstly good luck with your camper project.

I will be selling my SWB on Ebay very soon (new van should be with me my 6pm tomorrow) and I had a play with that. Benefit of mine was it has the high roof, so you can use space above. You can get space out of a SWB many after market campers were based on them, with a high roof though! I partitioned my van to accomodate a double bed at the bottom and a double or 2 singles from the low roof area, meaning that you could still move around in bed at the top because of the high roof.

If your worried about being cold I have a night heater for sale from my tranny, runs off the diesel tank. Used while camping or out on a surf trip, keeps you very cosy, although will need a new thermostat dial, as the kids pulled it off the dash mounting. Theromstat switch can be bought off Ebay for approx £20, can sell you the heater for £100, it's cheap at that. I would keep it, but the wife has decided I am going to tow a caravan, so no need to put in my new van.

We had an awesome thunder and lightning storm last night at 11ish. Loads of thunder and lightning, but mostly rain.

Today has been a great day for weather, but a crap one with regards to getting any work done. :(
