My latest project

Postby MONSTER 0NE » Fri Aug 22, 2008 4:05 pm

Well I thought I better actually start a progress report on my van, as ive had it a few months without anyone using it as target practice for their bad driving.

Heres a few pics of the van when I got it
Image

Image
and here are a few of the mods ive done to it so far,
firstly the white dials which illuminate blue at night, which I managed to fit and get working today, also with some stainless gauge trims for a mondeo off ebay
Image
a pic with my rs 4 spoke steering wheel fitted
Image
and a pic of my nice half leather roush recaro from a granada fitted on a swivel base from a mk1 espace on a modified transit base (had to chop it down to allow for the extra height of the swivel base or the seat was to high) I have got another one for the passenger side to keep the girl friend happy (which ive gotta do as she bought me the seats in the first place), when ive finished modifiying the base
Image
Ive got a few more things ive gotta do in the next week or two when I get the chance eg fit the electric windows from my old van along with some light smoke tinted windows, so when these are done I will post some more pics up
Right 5th Transit now A black petrol mk5 swb, soon to be coverted into a day van mpv.

Those seats n steering wheel look the nuts mate 8)

What's the deal with removing the airbag steering wheel?
I have an RS wheel languishing in the shed,
and a worn out airbag wheel on my van,
but figured it would be a ford job to take it off :(

Also, what car is your boss from?

Cheers.

No problem getting the wheel off - just disconnect the battery and leave for a while, and then it should be fairly safe to disconnect the plug from the airbag unit and remove it, which will then give you access to the steering wheel nut behind it.

Cheers Andy, you star :)
2 questions...
How long's a while? 10 mins?
And I guess the plug will be on the end of a lead coming from the wheel?

I would give it at least half and hour if not an hour. Lead is there to unplug! Easy job mate :D

with regards the air bag I just disconnected the wiring on the colum and unbolted it with no problems, (as you need a trigger to actually set it off even if its got charge left in it) its how ive removed airbags in the past and never had any problems,
the stainless rings I bought a few years ago off ebay (I had them on my old van) cant remember how much I paid but I didnt pay £28 for them.

How did you separate the Espace swivels from the seat?

I was going to do the same but it looked too much like hard work so I fitted the full unit. The Espace seats were in good nick anyway.

Looked like a grinder job to me as they're part of the base??
