The Saga of me and my MK1 Camper

Postby Watto » Sun Sep 07, 2008 11:05 pm

I should really have started this three years ago when I first got my MK1 Transit but here goes anyway.

It all began with a mad moment on ebay when I bid on and won my overpriced, overstated and underperforming van.

It was advertised as a runner and apart from the engine being a bit lumpy the test drive seemed OK.

So I parted with £1200  of my hard earned cash, got insurance cover over the phone a set off on my adventure  What a mug

After about 10 miles the engine started to get hot and vent steam from the radiator overflow pipe. I stopped and topped it up but no joy - as soon as I got going again the same thing happened.

I only got it home (at about 2 in the morning) with the help of the AA who advised me that the head gasket had failed :(

Still, by the next day I was feeling optimistic and was pretty sure the AA man had got it wrong about the Head Gasket and it was just a simple case of overheating.

And it actually doesn't look too bad from a distance 8)

What this engine needed was a good clean up so I could see what was going on

Now that nasty looking gunk in the thermostat housing may have something to do with it

Now that's looking better all ready :)
