It all began with a mad moment on ebay when I bid on and won my overpriced, overstated and underperforming van.
It was advertised as a runner and apart from the engine being a bit lumpy the test drive seemed OK.
So I parted with £1200
After about 10 miles the engine started to get hot and vent steam from the radiator overflow pipe. I stopped and topped it up but no joy - as soon as I got going again the same thing happened.
I only got it home (at about 2 in the morning) with the help of the AA who advised me that the head gasket had failed

Still, by the next day I was feeling optimistic and was pretty sure the AA man had got it wrong about the Head Gasket and it was just a simple case of overheating.
And it actually doesn't look too bad from a distance

What this engine needed was a good clean up so I could see what was going on

Now that nasty looking gunk in the thermostat housing may have something to do with it

Now that's looking better all ready

More to follow if anyone's interested.........
