My Landliner

Postby Chaz&Saz » Mon Jan 19, 2009 4:27 pm

Hi,

Right by now everyone in the mk1/2 section must of seen it on Ebay, and now sort of knowing how rotten it is - have you got any helpfull handy tips?

Jay say's the back door has let a lot of water in, so how do i tackle the floor?

Will get a new passenger door for her, but we'l see what the bank manager says about that!

What else am i supposed to look for?

Whats worth using fibre glass on in order to escape further rust?

Are floorpan sections available? I imagine there ribbed?

How easy will it be for the 'misses' to clean the dash? its that horrilbe pinky browny colour.

I can do all mechanical work, engine etc and the misses normally does the trim but i hate welding and have no idea on floorpans.

Has anyone ever re-upholstered the cushions etc?

Why does eveyone think the paint and stripes were an after thought? i thought that it was typical Ford Factory advetising lol :D

Also Jay says the seats aren't orginal - how can you tell?

What size socket do i need for the wheel nuts? there twin rear wheels

And just how rare are they? i havent seen that many around and i've heard some people jump up and down at the thought of them - but then again the 'misses' jumps up and down at the sight of a Herald!

Running out of questions now

the main problem will be the bulkhead, ive just done one and to do it properly is gonna be costly if you cant weld yourself ! the air duct thats attatched engine side of the bulkhead will HAVE to come off to do it anywhere near properly, if i were you id forget all the other tasks for now and concentrate on the welding  ive just seen 2 with the bulkhead rotten and even the heater box mount was rotton, he advertised it as having a rotton bulkhead so i assume it quite bad :( the main problem is getting access to be able to weld it :)

Better buy a little mig , and first keep trying on some rubbish pieces! It will be annoying at first but if you will be eager to learn (like i did) then you ll cheer up as you hear that mig wissing out a nice weld
Don't you ever do fibreglass with metal, have seen acouple like that here, and it will be much better to leave it as it is, the surface between the two materials will get damp with mouisture and ahhhhh
Looking forward to see pics :D
