My -95 mk5 swb td soon to be tdi

Postby MCL » Sun Feb 08, 2009 11:43 pm

Bought the van 1 1/2 year ago to transport my bike to the track and daily transport with 280tkm on it.It was rusting pretty bad and neglected by the last owner.First I thought about keeping it for a year and sell it on without doing anything.Put another 20tkm on it with only one oil change. To get a picture of how bad I neglected it is that I broke the sidewindow and fixed it with a lot of tape  .

Last spring I got disgusted how slow and ugly the van really was.The timing belt was last changed 110tkm ago so I started to tear it apart and found out the egr had clogged the whole intake with soot.Didnt take me long to take the whole head apart.Serviced in the army from last summer to new year so didnt do much to it during that time.Just had the the head done with new valve stem seals, also got rid of the rust and painted it red.Planning on putting the head back on tomorrow and visit a breaker tomorrow. The van in its current state(notice the window)!

Right now im searching for a 145/146 bosch pump to do the conversion,Also searching for the newer intake manifold of the naturally aspirated di engines(not banana).Getting new 100ps injector from united diesel.Im also going to fit a large intercooler in front of the radiator. The stock turbo is a small fella, thinking about replacing it with a holset hx25w turbo with a custom manifold and 2,5 exhaust, the pump will also need to be modded. How much hp do you recon the stock td pistons can take without oil spray?

Hopefully the engine will be finished before spring,as I really want to start working on the chassis. The arches has rusted real bad(all four),the back door has rusted beyond repair. The color of the van has changed from red to pink and needs to be polished. There is also rust in the engine room and and the outside, weird enough there is really no visible rust under the van.I can fix all of it except the wheel arches, and leave it to the pros. The front brakes and shocks are shot, there is also some play in the steering which I will look into. There is a lot more to tell about what im going to do with it if you are interested.

Does anyone know if the fuel lines between the injection pump-filter-diesel pump needs to be high pressure line or will regular fuel line do the trick?

Anything between the injection pump and injectors is high pressure, other than that low pressure

Juu,ei oo häävi korjata autoa 7asteen pakkasessa  .

My 2 day job turned out to be a 5 day job,but i got the job done done.

Bloch surface with light rust and remains of the old gasket.

Block surface after removing the old gasket with a carpet knife and cleaning the surface with scotchbrite.

Threads redone, still needs a bit of cleaning and oiling the cylinder walls.Original honing marks still visible after 300tkm  .
Image

Head and pushrods assembled. My hands are still bleeding from torguing the head bolts, you could clearly notice that the bolts started stretching after 80 degrees.
Image

Rocker arm assembled and oiled.
Image

Head cover assembled with two bolts.Still need to take it off to adjust valve clearances as soon as I find a 145/146 pump and can assemble the timing belt.
Image

Next im going to paint the oil pan,it has rusted pretty bad.Im also thinking about putting some sound insulation in the engine room.Is it normal for the stock sound insulation to rub on the cyl head/head cover or is my engine/transmission mounts shot?
Image

Does somebody know what year/model transits had this intake manifold?

Good work there mate! :D :D

You said that you are going to change the injectors to 100 ps ones, is this needed to gain more power?? if I ever find a bosch pump to replace my Lucas (Mk3 engine), as I have fitted a turbo to the engine, and need a compensator pump.

Looked through e bay and it seems to be a thirst for these pumps. :?

I was told that my injectors wont work with the 145 pump, and yes 100ps for more power.

Found a 145 pump for 150$+postage,seller says the pump was bought new a couple of year ago and has only done 10k miles, there is no corrosion and it looks brand new so I believe him.Is this a reasonable price for the pump?Is the gas pedal assembly different on <--95 transits?

Then to injectors,I should fit the 98 onwards 100ps brown spot injectors correct?

33710 PN2 974F-9E 527-FB 100PS TC EPIC HRD710 BROWN
Whats is the difference between these injectors?

33409 PN2 954F-9E 527-AA 130PS MARINE YELLOW
Would these fit my engine/pump?
