1996 190 LWB Hi Cube. Motorbike Transporter Conversion

I've just purchased my 1996 Transit 190 for a beggardly £600.

I am planning on tarting up the exterior. The rear door top hinges need re-welding and a few dents and scrapes need sorting out along with the usual Ford rust.

I won't be doing much until after the IOM TT at the beginning of June as I need the van in working order to take the bikes over.


The eventual plan for inside is to have dedicated space for two bikes as well as tools and spares, along with space for camping equipment, etc.


Anyway, here are pics of how Pinky (don't ask!) looks now:

nice, looks like my "RaceTranse" i can fix 2 enduros inside, tested with two ktm's, a fridge, a gas stove and a bed for one person are inside too. at the moment i haven't only this foto but at the afternoon i can take some more pictures from my bus.

Well wheels and tyres are now sorted, big thanks to Dave (LRN).


Looks like the rear doors are probably beyond repair in all honesty. Shame really because it's only the top hinges that are fooked. previous repairs done with an Arc welder, need I say more?


I'm thinking of putting a pair of uPVC french doors in to replace them with eventually


I've got a bit of shelving/racking in for our 6mx3m marquee and the tents and stuff for the IOM. It's all pretty temporary but it will have to do until the end of June after our annual bike meet in Wales. Then I can get started on the refurb

Whoever confirmed it was a high cube was wrong... its a high top LWB

See the extra panel in the middle? If its the extended frame with the high roof its a high cube, otherwise its just a high top

That's the original Jumbo isn't it though? And it's XLWB surely?

Some people call them a jumbo yes, but in reality they are a high cube!

The wheel base is the same, its just the body is longer, so its known as an extended frame. That length body is avaliable in semi high roof (called the Long Cube) and the high roof (High Cube)

Yours is just a LWB with a high top, hence a LWB high top

New + lead from battery to SM today. Nice piece of 40mm2

Ended up having to make an emergency trip to Halfrauds though as the battery terminals I bought could not cope with the 40mm cable as well as the 16mm cable to the fuse box, even though they were supposed to

Five quid later and I ended up with a half decent wing nut type doodah. It'll do for now. I'll sort the leccy properly when Pinky goes off the road for refurb.


It has made starting 500% easier. No sluggish turn over any more. Just whizz - roar in the space of about two seconds
