1968 LWB Twinwheeler 2,6 V6 project

Postby spitfire » Sat Jul 25, 2009 12:20 am

I have started the restoration of my 1968 LWB Twinwheeler 2,6 V6 Transit.
It will get an 2,8 unleaded engine and a 5 speed gearbox.
In front it will have 205-75x14 wheels and in the rear it will get 215x14.
I have 4 x seats and a rear seat from a BMW 735, it is the comforth seats in black leather. The front seats are full electric with armrest the second row with seats are manual adjusted and the rear seat is ehhh a rear seat :)
Power steering is also on its way :)
The car is going to be a 7 seat service car and hauler for my Spitfire.
Bought a lot of parts for the car allready, all lights are new and all the chrome marks (transit-custom etc) is also new.
Decals for the engine compartment etc is also bought.
+ a lot of other stuff.
I am dismantling the car first to get it sandblasted and i hope to get it done within a year.

Bit of a traditionalist meself like to see the old ones back to their original but each to his own as we say over here. Van doesn`t seem to have much of a rust problem for its age.
I`m to old to lie under Transits

:D The car has from new had the "pedals thrue the floor" but have been converted to hanging pedals some years before I bought her :D But always been LHD, it was sold new in Sweden 18 november 1968.
The original numberplate numbers it had in Sweden is available in Norway :) :)
And I hope it is when the car is finished also so I can have it, if not must i construct a numberplate from that age so it can have period type plates.

Understand what you meen but I want to build it as a servicecar who can travel at speeds like a new one :)
And the car was not original when I bought it either, it was badly converted to a campervan :)
Hope it will be a nice car to drive with tools, friends and the Spitfire racer on the trailer behind heading for the raceway.

But the attachment for the steering-box is still present on the right hand side! I'm pretty sure they were not built with these on both sides. Anyway good luck with the built.

The attachement for the steering box was on both sides from new :)
I can imagine this is normal for the early British made Transit for the LHD marked? But who knows :)
Aint there attachment on the left side on the RHD early models?
