our recovery trucks

Postby danSankey » Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:50 pm

i just thought i'd post some pics of the recovery trucks me and my uncle build, we've been doing it for about a year now, heres a few

we started out doing fixed beaver tails and ones that tilt on hydraulics but still have seperate ramps, heres one of our beaver tails

then we designed this, its not hydraulic so its quite a lot lighter than the usual tilt and slides, this one weighed in at 2240 and its a full steel body

and we have just finished building this one, the design is the same as the last one but slightly tweeked so that it slides off more now, we extendedd the chassis too

we are building another truck at the minute but just a cheapo one for ourselves to use without being tempted to sell it when we get offerd some cash for it  its only n reg but the chasis is mint, and i've got a couple of old T3 turbos knocking around so i'm going to bodge one of them onto it too :D

what do you all think?

it weighs 2380, not exactly light its as light as its going to get, and people seem to want 3.5t crew cab recovery trucks

the body has a steel sub frame for the sliders but all the cross peices, planks and side raves are aluminium.

i'd rather not let on how it works at the minute as we're trying to keep ity under our hats because as far as i am aware nobody has done it like this before

the slide bed on the white one is radio controlled too

the next ones going to be a bit of an experiment too because we are going to turbo it ourselves, you dont get anywhere if you dont try eh? i think our trucks are pretty good for two blokes in an old barn

So what is the maximum payload you can take on these trucks? Can you reclass them to 4.5t etc?
