MOT Time Again

Yep MOT time again so decided to do all that needs doing to the old girl sorry for lack of pics but camera is being a bit hit an miss at moment .

Started at back end needed both outrigers that bumper mounts to replacing ,both sides at the rear of wheel arch both rear quarters ,wheel arches inner and outer , offside outersill













New shocks fitted to rear
jobs left include =
make new rear bumper all steel
bothfront steps need attention to the underside offside also needs repair to front of step
front chassis around front crossmember both sides
both front arches step-wing
considering a pair of wings
make front bumper all steel
will post more pics as i go camera willing

Looks very simila to what ive got ahead of me as soon as i get a gas bottle.

Today was the battery tray ,well the rust that was once a battery tray







then a small repair to front wing was going to replace but for such a small amount of rot decided to patch for now



hopfully more tomorrow

No not alot of it left ,definatly wasnt holding the battery in,.
Bit more done yesterday front panel repaired





then the passenger step




Still have to dressback and seamseal,

and the other day i had the old creaky bed noise coming from n/s front , but not the ball joint it was the top suspension mount changed it and problem gone

Brilliant work,good to see a Mk4 being saved. You can buy battery trays for Transit quite cheap still.

Not to take the size battery i have ,its off a big generator truck sort of size thats why i made one and angled it slightly ,will be making another up for the other side .. Had thought about a newer mk5 but this has only had 3 owners with myself 79k on the clock with mots to prove and hasnt cost anything in the last 12 mths so decided to give her a new lease of life already fitted rear shocks, 1 front top mount doing other tomorrow along with both front sills and make a new sideloader bottom skin plus with the making myself i know it fits as i want it to and i did train as a motor vehicle refinisher so its a lot cheaper than buying panels as yet have only purchased rear arches .feel good when i make a panel and then think new ready made £15/20 mine about 30 mins work £1for steel , i only pay £15 for a 6x3 sheet of 1mil ,.

Bit more done today , made and fitted lower skin to sideloader,



then repaired fuel filler



and started on step and sill




more pics when they are finnished only o/s step left to weld./then prop center bearing brake pipes & o/s/f top suspension mount
and replace screen ,.

cant wait to get on with mine now

but still trying to get a gas bottle for welder that aint stupid price. o and it to warm up a bit

The gas is a right pain to get,

done some more todat but sorry forgot camera so will have to be finnished shots tomorrow drivers step ,front inner arch and sill below the door just need to grind welds back now and hopefully all the welding is done ,, he says wilst praying to the great transit god.

As i said forgot camera so no just before

this is before i realy let the grinder loose

but took a couple of after filler was added yasterday, all flating will be done at same time

need to re underseal about 1/3 of van left the rest has been done over last couple of weeks

a skim of filler has been aplied over new sill just to ensure all is straight when flatted back most will be removed in the process

the filler is all easy sand, this lot being finishing filler its smother than normal

hoped the welding was finnished but alass its a tranny one more area to be plated found that has to be it then worked all the way around van and back to were i started so unless i missed something after this one i can pack the mig away for a while,.
But almost there o/s/f susspension mount ,brake pipes including flexy pipes ,prop centre bearing ,hopefully adjust front wheel bearings slight play but not bad and fit new screen,more to follow

No pics today , but adjusted front wheel bearings welded last plate and undersealed the rest of the van ,cleaned crap off engine and gearbox crossmembers and gave a coat of cellulose primer ready to top coat ,underside going to get a coat of mid blue enamel over the underseal not sure what colour the crossmembers or axle will end up as yet may be gold hamerite pics will follow as work is done,.

Bit more today after two coats of shultz decided to blow a coat of blue enamel over the top and had a bit of gold left so started to play
