Hi all I have just got a 1995 custom low top swb to replace my LDV CONVOY.

I got it of ebay and the guy said it needed 2 very small bits welding on it for the mot. all me and my mate dave have found so far is filler and lots of rust :evil:

the plan is to get it all welded up and get a mot on it and then it is going satin black to mach my race cars. ( Back in Black Racing )

also it will be done inside like a day van so we can sleep in it at race meetings and car shows.

anyway today me and my mate dave started the welding and so far we have done the drivers side front arch / wing and the sill were the drivers side step is.

tomorrow we are going to start on the rest of the sill and fit new back arches. fit new back brakes and top damper bush on the back

oh just 1 more thing we have to get all this work done and get it moted before the 22 of may for its first car show

Black is the worst colour for a camper\dayvan, it's gets soooooo hot.

i have a lovely tan around my eyes now i need to buy a welding mask next week when i have some money

Why didnt you want to replace the whole wing? That was the easiest bit

it was faster to just cut out the rust. plus the new wing was not made that well so we just used the bit we needed.

anyway today we did not get any welding done because of daves sun tan from yesterday lol ( sorry dave its good of you to help me and i hope your eyes get better soon )

I fitted new back brakes and sorted the hand brake out. also under sealed the iner arches to help stop it rusting

we also took out the seats to see if the floor was ok and it is. as the seats was out we have put a Volvo 480 half leather drivers seat in.

dave got all the filler out of the drivers side back wheel arch and there is alot of rust there.

tomorrow we will get the new back arch put on there and weld the sill up and finish the front iner arch welding.

dave has some pics from today and he will put them up soon

Hi and welcome to the forum,Nice to see someone using the loaf now and then and only replacing the rusty parts that need doing,I hate it when someone replaces half a side of a van just to do a rear wheel arch :lol:

But welding without a mask that is just plain daft PLEASE use a mask in future your eyes are easily damaged when welding .If you get a blow back of red hot molten metal in your eye :shock:

I would personaly rather have a red hot pocker shoved up my arse than that happening :lol:

thanks for the lecture i needed it LOL

i havent got arc eye yet just rather burnet around my eyes (should have turned my head away)
i cant afford a mask at the moment all my money has gone till next week but i will be useing a pair of welding goggels tomoz as i plan to have all one side welded and finished befor the week end
