Racked out my work van....

Postby Gavin » Tue Oct 12, 2010 4:11 pm

had this mk5 swb low roof for a couple of years, not done anything with the inside before now for a number of reasons....

1) ford in their wisdom designed it such that the only way to get an 8x4 sheet in is flat on the floor, and then you have to put your tools on top and unload them before you get the sheets out (or you put the sheets on top which results in the same thing) or you put them vertically up the middle between the seats which is next to useless.

2) i didnt want to divide it it up as i didnt want to lose all the space

thing is, now i'm well sick if it getting in a mess as it so easily does, so i decided to rack it out...

divided it down the middle, one side for the 8x4's and timber, baths, sanitary ware etc. got a section in the back for tool boxes with a couple of shelves for other tools

same arrangement in the side door for paint, plaster, tile adhesive etc

soilpipe in the roof for copper tube etc

Image

everything fits in nice and neat, the tie down is fixed to the frame at each end to stop the boards from flopping about.

Image

freed up a load of space in the cossie project, this was being used as a materials store! :(

still, room to work in it now :D

Another option would be the way i did one for a mate who`s a sheet metal worker.
Make up a frame out of RHS to sit above the wheel arches, basically a flase floor. You can get your 8x4 sheets flat under that and your shelves can be built above it.
You lose a little headroom but you still have plenty of storage space

i thought of that....ok for ply but so much grit and crap and screws ends up under the floor that it would tear plasterboard to pieces...
