Transit 190 Hi Cube Re Mod

Postby mk5 baby » Sat Nov 20, 2010 3:01 am

Hi Forum users firstly let me say thanks for stopping by to read my topic

Here we have my lovely Transit 190 Hi cube as you might guess she is a ex tyre van look hard enough you'll see who she belonged too (Hi Q) the wonderful yellow roof
This photo was the first photos just before I purchased her as you can tell she had a good working life and looking tired externally.

Image

I'm hoping to convert it to a very comfortable business van for furniture removals & deliveries but before get onto that I'll explain abit more about van as where all here for one reason we love Transits and like to hear what there doing or got up to or basic helpful tips etc

Born in 1996 started life out like I said a tyre van and been fitted with compressor & pto and continued to give good service to her main owners till 2002 when they thought was time to pass her out. :(

Then used by another owner for personal use then eventually me which just took here on approx 3 months ago

Drove her back expecting the worst but did not let me down one bit smooth as silk must say was impressed  and shortly afterwards given her first bath in years roof took some cleaning but certainly came up including rust

For a van 14 years old she is very clean for her age expect rear bottom panels & rear crossmember where they all get it but soon will have her rear fixed (sounds rude  )

Any way enough of that if want to know more just post comments and let you know.
If there is some Transit lovers that like to name there van please send sudjestions as she deserves a name but not sure (maybe Bertha due to size)

Right onto my plans Photos will follow shortly:

After cleaning her up started in cab with removing seats as drivers had gone but interesting story about that. Then pulled up rubber mat as was soaked expecting to find problems underneath due to water but mint just about
then set about shifting 14 years worth of muck by heck what a job then later after floor dryed out on washing line got the mop & bucket (yes you heard right) and gave her good clean
followed by removing bench seat and stripping & unpicking fabric which then went in wash (If curious to know if Transit seat fabric washes yes they do Synthectics 30c) and come out brand new had stains on inside of fabric and shifted them  you probalby wonder why done this well remember about drivers seat I removed the seat fabric base and threw it out as ripped etc and pulled foam cushion off as gone soft and then restrengthed the seat springs by adding another spring base from bench seat then completly rebuilt the seat including fixing up seat foam from bench then using the washed bench seat fabric and re fitted using high strength adhesive to stick to foam and then become the new passenger single seat and driver was fitted with a Tourneo GLX seat very posh.

Afterwards was time to remove that new tyre smell so got about drilling out rivets on plastic sides and removing floor which you can find for sale on Ebayhttp://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... RK:MESE:IT ideal if got mechanic van etc

then set about cleaning floor to endless tyre valves and pure muck then after 4 hoovers fills yes (4) got the mop out again and well came out a treat except slight repair to rear.

Where now currently upto current progress boarding the back out with new plywood & insulation to keep noise down and trying to keep weight to minimum
so far boarded drivers side rear panel and boarded the roof sides and roof all filled with rockwool then came the bulkhead which was the trickest part getting right which is now in and now moving onto floor panels which will also be insulated underneath

So for now until get pics uploaded thats where I've got if anybodys got any ideas let me know as might implement them into my design as thinking as I'm building

Thanks for reading I will return

Hello again forum users here is a few pics of my van one of which can see a nice dent in the bonnet hopefully going to attach another bonnet shortly so will upload another pic when the bonnet is fitted.I've also removed it's smile as you might notice the heater risistor has corroded and stopped my fan from operating correctly so if you have this problem look out for this coiled round object if 1996 behind drivers headlight if newer believe inside dashboard.

Keep a look out as I progress to change this van from what is was to what is going to be

Its no camper conversion but I reckon it's a interesting mod for use of a private/business van :)

Hi you can ask about insulation (why) I don't know myself  just had some spare insulation and thought why not something different these vans are known to be like tractors and can't stand tractors when it supposed to be a van

Hello again just a update to my thread

A few pics of the newer drivers seat I was on about now replaced with a nice Tourneo captains seat with lumbar and then the passenger seat which converted down to a one seat instead of the bench seat.

Pics also show whats left of the bench seat. If anyone wants this frame by anychance and near or live in Derbyshire let me know and can work something out

Image

out with the old

Image

and in with the passenger single

Image

might put a set of seat covers on to hide the mis match

Or if somebody got identical passenger seat to drivers let me know happily give pennies for it. (even though went to efforts of making up passenger seat. )

I was hoping after all the welding done etc to have it painted don't really like the big yellow bath tub It stands out don't you think

Was thinking of nice gloss black but would mean have to paint the inside which may be a little expensive. So think repaint it the Gentian Blue she was born with.

How on earth did Hi Q get Ford to put a nice sunshine yellow roof on her. (Money  )

New 3 part prop-shaft

Soon to have her arse welded back together (cross-member) new quarter panels & arches.

Long wth replacement rear door, sliding door as she decided to bend that and piss water in every time it rains

Some list eh

Hi there

another update

First attempt of overall

First removed wires from light connected to tow bar how unprofessional no wonder got problems

Second removed the tow bar that was just attached to bumper giving her a fail point on her MOT
well tried to said no to the spanner trick so it got a oxy burner on it ha  did not stand a chance

Then found a source of wiring problems I'm still on with including a old dodgy alarm system that was ready to set me van alight arrghh  dam wires

After that gave up with it had a fag come back another day.

Report to continue
