Mk5 Twink

Postby familybanger » Fri Dec 03, 2010 8:51 pm

I haz new van :D The old one was getting ropey and this one came up at a price I could not ignore. Double bonus really as my old DI would not be allowed in the LEZ in Jan 2012 where as I can gun this 2 litre petrol about town to my hearts content.

It had sat for best part of 2 years. I tried chargeing the battery though guess what... It was dead. Brung her home on a rope of the back of mateys mk3.

We towed her back to his as he had a decent battery hanging about :D first crank and it's on the button go 8)

Water checked, oil changed and the steering wheel and pool ball gear knob from my old one applied to the new then mot booked. On way to test centre I remembered the balding tyre  Stopped at the breakers for a brand new secondhand one and now we are ready. Tester done a proper job and I paced about nervously as you do untill the news came.

Over the pit she goes

PASSED Advisory on the chasis rails which I new would happen, I'll fix them when the weather warms up.

Trouble free so far and a very nice runner though I'm sure it would benfit from a good long thrash. My trips so far have been short and mainly round town.

It was a state when I picked it up (got no pics  )and I had to give it a bloody good clean then tcut and polish to revive the paint. Worked a treat and now looks a new van. Oh yeah, it was covered in sign writing which was a complete vvv

to remove.

All in very pleased, it's sooooo quiet compared to the DI and the mpg don't seem that bad, maybe 'cos it reads in K's though

Cheers chaps.
Don't get me wrong I've got a lot of love for a DI and my old one had a strong motor which I was begrudged to let go, can't keep them both though as I've allready 3 cars, not to mention the 10 or so motorbikes kicking around.
This bus feels softer sprung than the van and that along with the windows, extra seats and smoother/quieter running motor make for a great family daily/dayvan/camper. I've always wanted to camper up my transits and this one is best suited to the job.

Wish list is;
Swival seats (big pimping leather ones :) )
Awning (xmas prezzie from my folks :D )
A whole bunch of wood, screws and glue for the yet to be finalised interior design.
Banded rims
Fit my towbar with step from the old van.
Time to fix the above

I fancy a mk3 grill too as I've never been keen on the smiley ones as this one (like most) is cracked.

Check my wheels after I 'accidently' went side ways all around a snow filled car park :)

R(ight)WD Transits are great fun with this weather we have at the mo. Must say though I've noticed that having decent tyres is really worth while and has ensured I have got where I want to go despit living on the highest hill in snow covered London. Only one shoval session so far which to be fair was avoidable, but where's the fun in that

Cheers for that :)

I need to send a pm to the wheels man, I'm off to do that now. It'll be worth dipping into that overdraft again. Better see how many spare wheels I have, sure I've got at least 4 somewhere so it don't have to go up on bricks whilst they get done.

I was trying (not too hard) to get a set of no holes ones to band and have collected an assortment of miss matched horrors over the years from breakers when I balded out a tyre. It's the ones on the van (MK5) that will get the treatment, pm has been sent to get me on the waiting list :D

Good info once again, clears up the mistery off my spares pile

Cheers, anyhow I think I'm sorted for wheels though my mate may need to donate his spare for the duration the matching wheels are away for banding, he dosn't know yet but I know where he parks his van overnight

I'm gonna see if I can cobble together a winter set as I like to get the back end swinging and it would be a shame to club a nice painted up banded one on the curb

We are going of traveling in this as a family next summer so I need to get a move on making it camping friendly inside whilst retaining the need to chuck a motorbike in when the I need to.

Yay, I'm on the list for wheels banding. Bit of a waiting list :( though it gives me time to save funds and get the wheels bare and ready for the metal work.

:D :D :D
