My MK5 1997 SWB Smiley AKA NOA

Postby transit mark » Sat Jan 01, 2011 1:38 pm

After my Ford Courier give up on me i decided to sell it for spares and repairs, it sold for £300. I was then searching for a van, I see this on Ebay and bidded, bidding went over £500 and i lost the van. Then i get a phone call saying the guy has been messed about. Alot of phone calls and talking we settle on £400. I ended up paying £380 as i took £20 back for diesel.

1997 P Ford Transit 2.5 DI, EX BT was grey but was repainted badly green at some point. 79,800 on the clock, every old MOT, full service history and loads or reciepts.

Me and Stuart had a trip to Boughton (Faversham) to pick it up and this is how it was.

Few things that i wasnt happy about was the passanger seats and the benches in the back (they make a double bed). The body work isnt the best but then it is a 1997 Transit and the body work will have work done in the summer.

Me and Stuart set work on removing the homemade seats in the back and the ply floor. The van looked decent underneath but we didnt know what to expect and Stuart was wondering if the welder would be needed. We was greated with this.

Apart from a good clean the floor was solid, all the usual spots were good.

Seats have been changed in the front

Ply lining was started

I wanted the roof rack off as i have no use for it, me and Stuart had a long day and resulted in this

This is the stage where Stuarts grinder caught fire and died, you may see the smoke in the pictures.

A temporary repair has been made to the near side rear arch till the better weather comes and where the plastic trim is missing has been painted green.

I have replaced the water pump and the cambelt. I had reciepts saying they had been done but i wanted it done so i know its done.

More updates will come as work progresses.

Next on the list is to replace the front grille, front bumper replaced the bonnet needs to be replaced as the catch broke, side door replaced and then some work on the nearside rear quater in the summer.

Im going to be doing some bis on the van on Monday so there maybe some more pictures then. Im currently doing the ply lining at the moment but i dont have alot of free time at the moment with work.

All comments and suggestions welcome, i wont be offended.

I was thinking that myself but i was given 4 8x4 sheets for free. I was going to use the thick stuff for the bulkhead, floor and the arch boxes.

Looks a nice clean van for the money. You get alot of mk5 for the money now but some still go for silly money. Bt roof racks are a pig to get off.
