Smiley front Recovery Transit

Postby chrisr » Sun Mar 13, 2011 8:03 pm

I have been on the look out for a nice clean Transit recovery vehicle to try & start my own business up, I went to see quite a few but none really ticked all the boxes of what I wanted,

The main things were I wanted one with a good length body, A good winch, Light Beacon, Nice & clean truck & as low miles as possible.

After a few weeks of looking I came across this one

Its a P reg, 80,000 miles (Genuine!!), 3 Owners from new, Ful MOT, Loads of srvice history,

Went to see it & after a good look round it I decided it was a good one, Its never been welded, No rust at all on it, Engine is sweet as a nut, No oil leaks at all.

Only down side was the winch was run off a battery under the bed, So I went & bought a 3m Extension wiring kit from Auto lift UK & also got one of their wireless remote kits for it.

Went to see a mate of mine today who is wizz with car electrics,

The truck is now enabled so I can switch the ignition off & remove the keys but also leave the engine running :D

Its Ideal for when im winching a car on & it wont allow the battery to go flat, Also means I can put the steering lock on once the keys are removed & lock all the doors.

Whilst he was doing all that I fitted some reflective stickers on the side of it

Also did my first Job in it Today, Picked up a nice yidy 306 with no MOT or tax on it

Cheers for the comments, It is a very very clean one, Even insode its just as clean, the drivers seat is perfect with no sagging or rips, The floor in the cab doesnt even have any muck or oil on it.

Plans for it are to fit a better beacon on the roof, Some Ebay strobe LED Lights in the front grill, Then a set of Yellow flashing LED strobes inside the rear window & a set of Red ones next to them. A pair of loading lights fitted to the structure around the winch or on the back of the cab & then possibly some up rated rear springs & a Front Bull Bar

Cheers for the Advice, the Guy I got it off said it weighed just under 2 tonnes & that was with 1/4 tank of fuel & a spare battery under passenger seat.

I have thrown the spare battery out & wont be carrying anything much bigger than the 306 in the pic anyway, Its more for personal use

No real updates to get excited about

But I have removed the small beacon & fitted a 4 foot twin one with the centre illuminated, Ill be getting some LED Strobes today I hope, Going to get 2 Amber ones for in the front grill & 2 red ones to mount inside the new beacon,

Also removed the Kenwood radio & fitted a standard Ford 2006 RDS one.

Since owning the Truck I have Bought & collected 3 cars, 1 scrap one & 2 that were MOT'd & Taxed still, I have decided to sell my Leon Cupra R & hand my notice in at my current Job to run the truck full time.

The sale of my Cupra R will give me £5000 to put in my bank, I will give the new venture 2 months paying myself £1000 a month wages from the car money, If after that it doesnt work then ill just sell the truck & go job hunting.

Since having the truck I have bought 3 cars for myself that I have sold on so there is profit to run it

Are you going to bother with tax, NI and all the government cons?

Best thing I ever did is work for myself
