My 2.5 TDi project

Postby FEEZ92 » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:33 am

Have a look at my turbo conversion on a 70ps Di. Its destined for a Mk.5 Swb with a welded diff and seriously lowered.

Engine is a standard 70ps '91. Compression: 20.8:1
Turbo: T3/T04E
Bosch VE injection pump with max fuel turned up and modified governor spring for a 6000 rpm redline! Static timing is also advanced a bit.
Temporary intercooler from a Citroen Xantia my friend had scrapped.
I need a radiator but the block is always filled with water.

If you keep revving the cobblers off it with no air cleaner attached, you will have no turbo followed a few milliseconds later by no engine!!!

WHOA! Nobody said anything about being able to convert a 70ps to turbo!

Those in the know...... Is this wise? Tell me why I shouldn't turbo my lil 70ps chainsaw???

Speed.

6000 rpm   = very short life

 Oh and best avoid the LEZ zones with that smoke :!:  Are you sure that intercooler isn't too big for the turbo :?:

Thanks for the comments

I have modified the Bosch injection pump more today. The governor spring has been removed because the fuel was being cut above 3750rpm, same time its making boost.
I also removed the LDA Torque Control thingy's guts so that doesnt work either and smokes and boosts like a motherf*cker now :D
Neighbors hate me lol

The setup is destined for a crazy idea my friend and I came up with after drifting his '97 SWB on wet roundabouts:
1. Put a big turbo on the van
2. Weld the diff,
3. Cut the springs and change the leaf springs by about 5 inches,
4. Weld in a roll cage
5. Give it some abuse on the track and watch Jaws drop 8)

I have 2 spare engines; both bought for €50 each along with an engine I stripped completely for spare parts

I am getting 130ps yellow spot injectors and a decent front mount intercooler

I'm hoping to make over 200bhp with this thing, with the revs, boost and fuelling I dont think it should be a problem seeing as the Merc guys are getting 250bhp/ litre out of their stock TD's blocks

Sounds a bit heavy, but at least you're not afraid and have a spare engine or two to play with :D
Keep us posted, we'll be looking out for you :!:

Thanks bud :D
Just trying to push the old Di to its limits, seeing as nobody seems to have done it so far. They are made SO much better than the shite Duratorq peugeot 'infested' disasters.
Di are like BRICK SH1THOUSES, especially the block so im pretty confident it will stand a fair bit of abuse once its cooled and lubed properly :?

I got the engine running after half an hour. It bent 3 pushrods into an S-shape and 4 others slightly.
New set of pushrods and a timing belt, set the valve clearances, and she fired straight up :D

Yup no slipping timing chains for me. I saw a 07 Transit slip the timing chain and it only 2 years old

6K and a 90.5mm stroke = a big bang and oil on the floor.

That sort of mean piston speed would do a F1 engine proud
