bit of an update brought my weber 34ich conversion from fastroadcars.co.uk and fitted that on with a new choke cable, its made a huge difference and its runs so much better now. I fitted the pan cake filter they give you initially and then found some 60mm silicon hose to fit over the carb and onto my original air box so as i can use that it only cost £3.80 on ebay for the silicon hose.

The carburetter conversion is the complete kit and gives you everything you need he is a really helpful guy it was £210 for the carb kit but its well worth the money in my opinion and it runs like a dream now and definitely a bit more power and a lot smoother pick up and better cold running aswell. I would highly recommend the kit.

I also sorted out my wiring in the back of the camper for my dual battery and i fitted a fuse panel in and fitted my 70amp relay for the split charge system also brought a sub wiring kit to use the 60amp power wire from and it also comes with the inline glass fuse holder with a 60amp fuse in only cost me 13 quid for the whole kit and done the job nicely so now the dual battery charges nice and fast with now loss of power through the wire.

So well pleased with that now.

Ive brought a 5 speed type 9 gearbox complete with the spider style bellhousing, gearbox mount, clutch fork and the gear stick and will be fitting that very soon, along with a new clutch. i need to source a type 9 cross member to fit my mk1 transit so if anyone has one to suit let me know. Also need to know which clutch i need to use as im not sure on that and what clutch cable and speedo cable i need. any help would be much appreciated.

anyway heres some pictures of what ive been upto.

I have now got the cross member i need for my 5 speed gearbox conversion so i have the box gear stick and gearbox mount and crossmember, my exhausts are going to need modifying to allow room for the gearbox crossmember to fit as my transit is a v4 but that should not be to hard to do as im pretty handy with a welder :D

anyway here are the pictures of the cross member it came from a 1988 mk3 transit lwb that had a type 9 box fitted.

im going to wire brush it up rust treat it and hamerite it with smooth black hammerite before i fit it.

i will get a picture of the gearbox up soon.

im hoping i can use my original v4 bellhousing but i will find out soon enough if that can be done, and also fingers crossed my prop shaft will be ok for the new 5 speed type 9 box :)

Cheers guys

Ive managed to source a brand new overdrive gearbox with the laycock overdrive on the back for my mk1 transit so im in the process of fitting it.

It all fits fine my original 4 speed propshaft fits original clutch can still be used along with original bellhousing and the clutch cable and speedo drive all fit as well ive been very lucky so far.

Ive had to remove the original gearbox mount from the floor as the 4 speed box used the hang from the floor type mount and the overdrive box uses a 5 speed type 9 mk3 transit gearbox crossmember which bolted straight up to my chassis as the captive threads were all there. The only other thing i will have to do is modify my down pipes to clear the crossmember as they line right up with it so im going to make my own custom downpipes and my mate is letting me use his pipe bender so no problems with that bit either.

The only problem im up against is getting hold of a clutch to fit my camper:

I need a new clutch kit for my 1974 mk1 transit campervan i brought a brand new old stock transit mk1 v4 clutch kit from ebay and it all is the same (release bearing and friction plate) apart from the pressure plate which is slightly smaller around the outside edge (not the bit the clutch plate sits on thats the same diameter) and the dowls/bolt spacing is different and the holes dont line up with my flywheel it is a very small difference but its enough to stop me fitting it. Mine is definitely the smaller size clutch 8 1/2" or 215mm.

The local parts shop my dad uses as his in the motor trade have even ordered in a corsair v4 clutch kit and a pinto clutch kit and they both have the same difference on the pressure plate.

No one seems to be able to tell me what clutch kit I need and mine is a UK built 1974 registered late 1973 build date 1.7 v4 enginged canterbury mk1 transit short wheel base transit 90 campervan.

I was just hoping that someone on here might have come up against this problem and knows what clutch i need as im very confused by it now. I know fords were on stike around that time so maybe they fitted a different flywheel/clutch set up i really dont know? ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I will post up some pictures of the conversion as i go along :D

the clutch turnt out to be a 1.7 morris marina clutch part number QKT105 my dad had one from years ago new in the box in his garage so i was well lucky there, the pressure plate and liner plate fitted perfectly and i used the transit type release bearing from the v4 transit clutch kit i brought :D
