Problem after installing handsfree kit & reversing sensors

Postby hitnmisschris » Sat May 07, 2011 4:04 pm

This morning i finished putting in a wireless reversing sensor and a nokia bluetooth kit in my 04 lwb which i have had a month now.
All electrics were a doddle although i did blow the 15 amp reversing light fuse.
Replaced fuse with same rating - everything worked except van would not start!!
Not even a click from the solenoid on the starter motor.
Several attempts turning the key it started. Stopped and started it fine after.
Took it for a drive and it did the same thing.
Only connections i used was the igintion live for hands free along with a positive direct to battery, grounded it to a screw i drilled in.
Reversing sensor is powered by reversing light.
I am confident i have not disturbed anything but i am lost for ideas but on my last van you would hear solenoid on starter at least click when the starter was faulty
Any ideas gratefully received
Thanks, Chris

it's not shorting out some where causing battery drain ? or you've disturbed the pats ring

Dont think i have disturbed the pats ring on the ignition but i guess theres no harm in checking again. No battery drain as when it does decide to start its just as quick starting as normal.

Could it be that the wireless signal is blocking out the pats signal from the key??

Thats what i first thought but both the transmitter and receiver are only powered from the reverse light bulb - no separate supply to it.
Daft question could the blue tooth affect it as thats always on even though the same kit was in my previous smiley?

Its not the power supply I was refering to, it the actual signal that is wirelessly transmitted.
I only thought this as my house had wireless cctv, but when the knob next door got BT broadband hub, the signal it transmits to his PC, wipes out my cctv. :x

Sorry for the delay in replying but i have been without internet all week and the van was fine until this evening and now it wont start!
Pats light does go out but not even a click from the solenoid can be heard - looking at the starter its a pig to get to compared to my old smiley.
Before i purchase a new starter in the morning is there any fuses inline with the solenoid or any thing else i should elimate before i skint myself?

Just been back out to van armed with a torch and it struck up straight away!
Is it worth me replacing the starter relay as a basic elimination?
