Tourneo Tales....

Postby archersam » Thu May 26, 2011 4:22 pm

So I got myself a nice little Tourneo with lots of toys but needs some alterations to make it as I want it.....I have not had a proper dig round it with a pointy instrument but know it had a lot of box section repairs for last MOT only a month or so ago so hoping not too crazy with tin worm but it is a Smiley :D

Its had a dodgy stonechip pain job way above the normal stone chip line which I guess is to hide some crappy repairs, but time will tell.

Sounds to get me back from Exeter without having to listen to the dire radio stations.....
Image

It needs a proper valet as it well stinks despite a whole bottle of Febreze. So in the meantime the bench seats come out and single passenger front going in.

Image

Nice of Ford to make it easy to put a drivers seat runnner on the passenger side. Just matched up the holes, cut some carpet and plugged the holes no longer in use. Yes it really was that simple!

Voila.....electric/heated Recaro. This will become the drivers seat once the valet job has been done.

Already got some clear indicators and some LED strips for the door mirrors to make extra indicators as I have already seen on here. plus change head unit from the old van.

Looking sweet, I love the cosy Tourneo interior. If I were you I would try fitting single passenger seat from another tourneo to get some more free space in the cab keeping it original at the same time. Something like wannabe Euroline :)

Some time ago I wanted to get the mk5 LWB Tourneo interior and fit it to my tranny. But LWB Tourneo is like a holy graal here in Poland. And even in agony condition cost a lot of money :(

Unfortunately not, I got this baby from an A3 a few years back.

I have been really surprised at how cosy it is to drive even with all that open space as I was expecting it to bellow and boom like my vans but it has been great even with the standard stereo and that nice 2.5d engine.

Whilst matching interior would be nice I am happy to suffer this oddity for the sake of comfort and a warm ass when the temperature drops.

by the way does anyone know if the headlamp "covers" clip off easily? The Tourneo lights are electric but the plastic is dull and my other SWB has really clear and bright lights but are not electric. Whilstit looks simple to take out and replace all mechanisims I noticed some little clips on the lights and wondered if its even easier to just unclip?

So the sun was shining, I had borrowed a carpet and seat cleaning machine and the plan was to do the carpet, seats and headlining and let them dry in the beautiful sunshine. Well best laid plans and all that.

Cleaned the rear seats insitu as stopped them from moving around whilst applying lots of pressure to get all the grime out of them. Then they were out and it was looking good.

Nice handy template to work from as plan to replace this with some plywood and leave the carpet out of the van.

Got a bit barried away and all of a sudden it was like this....

Despite a "rear cross member" repair for the MOT in April (I just bought it) a quick poke around without too much pressure revealed these:

Near Side:

From underneath:

Off side:
Image

As I had gone this far I thought sod it lets rip out everything and then it can all be inspected and repaired.

Near side sill seems in good nick
Image

Off side not that bad, but needs work

I have a few questions. Where is best place to get some of this magic Waxoyl stuff I hear about? Presumably I can spray it into all open holes and around seams and wheel arches etc and it will help me out? I guess now I have a big hole in top of cross member it makes sense to flood with the stuff as well?

Thanks guys.

So today was about moving from double DIN to single DIN for the head unit I already had and making a working cup holder out of the parts of three cupholders....

Before:

During:

After:

Whilst I was at it I installed a multiple cigarette lighter and USB charger and a separate fuse box for ancillaries. Not sure what came over me but I fed the cable all the way through the bulkhead to the battery and connected everything up. Was all finsihed then realised I never use accessories on a permanent live and that the LED on the adaptor would no doubt kill battery over a week or so.....so I had to redo it all.
